We are looking for you to join our team as a System Engineer/Principal Systems Engineer based out of Ocean Springs, MS. As a Systems Engineer at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation.  At Ocean Springs, MS, our primary product focus is design, integration and test of shipboard electronic systems including internal and external communications, C5I systems integration, RADARs, Weapons Systems, Integrated Bridge, and voice, video and data distribution and control.

What you’ll get to do:

  • Perform requirements development, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems
  • Support the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints.
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Generation and updating of System and sub-system level specifications in DOORS, including creation of Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM) and verification traceability (tracing requirements to test plans/procedures/results)
  • Update and maintain system drawings and documents such as Interface Control Documents, Arrangement Drawings, etc.
  • Participate/Lead and coordinate preparation, conduct and closeout for internal and external customer reviews (Systems Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, Test Readiness Review, etc.)
  • Support the creation and refinement of Model Based System Engineering products (System behavioral models, Use Case realizations, State Machines, etc.)

The ideal candidate has the ability to multi-task and balance multiple projects simultaneously. You are committed and enjoy a collaborative approach. You demonstrate strategic big picture thinking along with sound decision making and good judgments. You have effective oral and written communication skills and enjoy working in a team environment.  The candidate can identify and perform research, analysis, evaluation, development and test of technologies from industry, academia, and other government organizations, to include Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS), Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS), and open source technologies, for applicability to solving mission requirements.  The candidate will provide systems engineering recommendations and assist with the planning and execution of development efforts for complex software and hardware systems, and systems of systems to meet mission requirements.

The individual should be a self-starter, versatile, a problem solver, and have a willingness to work as part of a team. Individual must be willing to travel occasionally to locations elsewhere in the corporation in order to assist in troubleshooting efforts, attend design review meetings, and work off-shift hours if necessary.

**This position can be filled as a level 2 OR level 3**

Basic Qualifications Systems Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 2 years relevant experience; or Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 0 years of relevant work experience
  • Working knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes
  • Demonstrated experience quickly learning new concepts and approaches
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • First-hand experience with requirements and interface management
  • Familiarity with system drawings and documents such as Interface Control Documents, System/Subsystem Specifications, Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM), etc.
  • Experience with system engineering tools such as IBM Rational DOORS
  • Familiarity with MBE/MBSE concepts and tools
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally work off-shift hours as necessary and/or travel occasionally to support design or test effort
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance

  • Working knowledge of systems engineering principles and processes
  • Demonstrated experience quickly learning new concepts and approaches
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • First-hand experience with requirements and interface management
  • Familiarity with system drawings and documents such as Interface Control Documents, System/Subsystem Specifications, Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM), etc.
  • Experience with system engineering tools such as IBM Rational DOORS
  • Familiarity with MBE/MBSE concepts and tools
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally work off-shift hours as necessary and/or travel occasionally to support design or test efforts.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Systems, Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Experience with Agile development
  • Firsthand experience with MBSE concepts, languages, and tools (SysML/UML, MagicDraw and / or Cameo)
  • Design and operational knowledge of navy programs
  • Ability to read and interpret government or military specifications
  • Experience with proposals
  • Effectively communicate and present to project and program management, other technical managers and customers
  • Direct experience using the DOORS Requirements Management Database
  • Excellent technical writing and team building skills
  • Active Secret clearance or higher

Salary Range: 77900 - 116900
Salary Range 2: 96600 - 145000

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
