Northrop Grumman is seeking a Software Engineer InternThis position will be located at our Aeronautics Systems Sector in Oklahoma City, OK. The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman's Palmdale Aircraft Integration Center of Excellence organization.

Essential Functions:

The software engineer will develop, modify and maintain customized or standardized embedded Mission Systems applications using software engineering best practices and standards, and participate in the full life-cycle of software development, to include requirements development, modeling and design, application development, unit to CSCI testing, integration, formal system testing, release, installation, and maintenance.

Basic Qualifications for a Software Engineer Intern (K001):

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2022

  • Be majoring in or having majored in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile)

  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2023.

  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)

  • Experience developing software with C/C++/Python

  • Experience testing software

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher

  • Previous internship/co-op or other work experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular)

  • Be available to work part-time (maximum of 28 hours a week) throughout the academic year.

  • Experience developing software for safety critical embedded systems

  • Experience integrating and debugging software on hardware

  • Experience working within an Agile environment

  • Familiarity with software development tools such as Git, CMake, VectorCAST, and Eclipse

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1553

  • Knowledge of Linux systems and basic commands

  • Familiarity with software requirements tools such as DOORS and Rational Rhapsody

  • Program Access and active DoD Secret clearance

Pay Range:

  • Bachelor's: $15.50 to $30 per hour

  • Master’s: $23.50 to $37.50 per hour

At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.


Salary Range: $16 USD - $38 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
