Our Defense Systems Sector is seeking a Principal System Engineer to join our  team in Clearfield, Utah or Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Responsibilities:

  • This successful System Engineer candidate will have engineering experience performing technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems

  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints

  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications

  • Candidates must possess engineering experience with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, machined parts, fabricated assemblies, composites, transparencies, and an additional broad range of aerospace commodities

  • Candidates will be working side-by-side with Northrop Grumman responsible Engineers and our supplier base to resolve technical issues impacting material procurement/manufacture

  • Candidate will perform the duties of reviewing and comprehending internal/external material and process specifications and will participate in internal process improvement initiatives associated with these documents

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems

  • Must provide surveillance for materials as required and work closely with NGDS/AS quality organization to ensure compliance with requirements is achieved and communicate support impacts and resulting shortfalls on the supply chain

  • Duties also include reviewing and coordinating Requests for Change or Information (RC/Is) initiated under B-2 Supply Chain Management for submission into the Engineering B-2 SRCI database as well as tracking to successful closure and provide weekly status to IPT

  • Possess computer and data base skills consistent with Microsoft Office suite and working knowledge of modeling software

  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints

  • Perform or manage functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications

  • Participate in the negotiation of contract and contract changes, coordinating the preparation of proposals, business plans, performance work statements and specifications

  • Serve as primary customer contact for program activities, as well as supporting program review sessions with customers to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance

  • Establish design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product development, integration, and test

  • Establish milestones and monitors adherence to master plans and schedules

  • Establish budgets and applies earned value management procedures for financial management of contracts

  • Identify program problems and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications

  • Act independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of assigned projects

  • Direct the work of employees assigned to the program

  • Support the development of new business by expanding the product line with the current customer or with new customers within the Department of Defense or industry

  • Participate in presenting company capabilities to potential customers and in the development of potential solutions to customer requirements

  • Plan R & D programs and recommends technological application programs to accomplish long-range objectives

    Basic Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s in Science or Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of Engineering experience OR a Master’s in Science or Engineering with a minimum of 3 years of Engineering experience OR a PhD in Science or Engineering with a minimum of 0 years of Engineering experience

    • Demonstrate technical knowledge/understanding to use/interpret engineering and source technical data to develop maintenance support requirements and supply/spare support requirements

    • Must have or be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance

    • Must be able to work on-site NGAS ASBU Clearfield, Utah or Oklahoma City, OK

    • Strong customer engagement skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Proven performance as a Systems Engineering Leader in many of the phases of acquisition, design, integration, and execution. Candidate will require ability to rapidly assess and lend guidance to projects assigned to the organizational group as well as demonstrated mentoring and guidance to engineers

    • Business development background including proposal development and Red Team support

    • Experience with aircraft systems to include avionics, radar, communications, mission computing systems, global positioning systems, threat warning systems, navigation, structures, flight controls, offensive and/or defensive systems

    • Experience managing analysis of structural loads, flight dynamics, electrical loads, thermal loads, EMI/EMC and weight and balance

    • Experience with SIL, ground and flight test requirements, planning execution and reporting

    • Experience with obtaining flight and aircraft certifications

    • Experience developing the organization processes, procedures for various engineering analysis

    • Experience identifying and selecting the best software tools to support the various engineering processes

    • Possess knowledge of metallic/composite materials manufacturing processes and an additional broad range of aerospace commodities

    • Experience in support of standardized laboratory material property testing

    • Current/previous B-2 Security Clearance

    • Demonstrate understanding and be able to apply the technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques related to Logistics disciplines to include Product Support and Technical Documentation use and development

    • Understanding of government aircraft maintenance and supply processes/systems

    • Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS 9100, AS9102 Industry/Aerospace Standards is a plus

    Salary Range: $83,000 USD - $124,600 USD
    Salary Range 2: $0 USD - $103,800 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
