Northrop Grumman is in need of a Propulsion Engineer to support our Ramjet and Scramjet Propulsion Systems Development efforts within our Advanced Propulsion and Systems (AP&S) Market Segment. This position will be located at our Palm Beach Gardens, Florida location.

The level of the position can be either a level 1 Associate Propulsion Engineer or a level 2 Propulsion Engineer.

The level of position to be hired will depend on exhibited education, experience, and competency.

Level 1 Associate Propulsion Engineer Description

Job Summary

Perform design of structural components and functional systems of company products. Generally work from under supervision from higher graded engineers. Analyze requirements for materials, structural component, or functional systems. Release results as design data after review by higher graded engineer. Evaluate completed design with supervisor and other technical groups and make modification necessary to achieve the most ideal design.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs design of structural components and functional systems.
  • Makes thoughtful and valuable suggestions and recommendations for improving own work and/or group’s work.
  • Establish requirements for materials, structural components, and functional systems.
  • Release results as design data after review from other engineers.
  • Document results of design activities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a STEM study, with strong preference in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Power Point)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current active Security Clearance
  • Knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) software, NX preferred
  • Knowledge of ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Ability and willingness to travel

Level 2 Propulsion Engineer Description

Job Summary

Perform design of one or more moderately complex or portions of structural components and functional systems of company products. Generally work from preliminary studies developed by higher graded engineers. Analyze requirements for materials, structural component, or functional systems. Select applicable analytical data from previous products, determine the technical principles involved, mathematically define the problem and compute the engineering characteristics consistent with the specifications, design needs and requirements of other portions of the product. Release results as design data after review by higher graded engineer. Develop original ideas and elaborate on preliminary design concepts. Evaluate completed design with supervisor and other technical groups and make modification necessary to achieve the most ideal design.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs design of one or more moderately complex or portions of structural components and functional systems.
  • With limited supervision, applies theoretical knowledge and engineering techniques to the solution of more complex components, structures, and sub-assemblies.
  • Responds in a timely manner to all requests and explores all avenues within authority and makes appropriate referrals to other sources.
  • Makes thoughtful and valuable suggestions and recommendations for improving own work and/or group’s work.
  • Establish requirements for materials, structural components, and functional systems.
  • Release results as design data after review from other engineers.
  • Document results of design activities.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a STEM study, with strong preference in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering & 2 years of related experience or Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Power Point)
  • Working knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) software
  • Knowledge of ASME Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current active Security Clearance
  • Working knowledge of NX
  • Knowledge of general machine shop fabrication processes, additive manufacture experience desirable.
  • Understanding of design for assembly / design for manufacturing (DFA/DFM).
  • Ability and willingness to travel

    Salary Range: $61,900 USD - $92,900 USD
    Salary Range 2: $74,900 USD - $112,300 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
