Northrop Grumman Defense System is seeking a Software Engineer Intern to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Palmdale, CA location. 

The qualified applicant will research, designs, develops, and/or modifies enterprise-wide systems and/or applications software. Involved in planning of system and development deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards. Evaluates interface between hardware and software, operational requirements, and characteristics of overall system. Documents testing and maintenance of system corrections.

Basic Qualifications:

A candidate, regardless of age and hiring source, must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2023.
  • Be majoring in B.S. or B.A. degree (Software Engineering)
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile).
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2023
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) and the ability to obtain and retain Special Program access clearance within 365 days from submission.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher
  • Experience
  • Previous internship/co-op or other work experience, leadership & teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular)

At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.

The pay ranges for this specific opportunity are as follows:

  • Undergraduate degrees (Including graduating students planning on attending/enrolled in a full-time Master’s program): $24.00 - $30.50
  • Masters degrees: $36.00 – $38.25


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
