Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Materials and Process Engineer/Sr.Principal Materials and Process Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.  This position will be located in Palmdale, CA within the Palmdale Aircraft Integration Center of Excellence (PAICoE) organization.

This position will be located in Palmdale, CA and is assigned to 2nd shift on a 4 day - 10 hours/day schedule.  Additional pay for shift differential will apply.

The selected candidate will be responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing materials and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems.  

The candidate will apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to investigate material issues and provide solutions.


The selected candidate will also provide support to multiple aircraft programs in both unclassified and classified environments; be responsible for new conceptual layouts, detailed engineering designs of structural composites, modifications, integration of advanced materials, drawing reviews, and performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications and manufacturing plans in a team environment with other engineering organization.

Note: This position can be filled at Principal Materials Process Engineer level or Sr. Principal Materials Process Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications (Principal Materials Process Engineer):

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or other STEM degrees along with 5+ years' engineering experience; or MS in STEM along with 3+ years' engineering experience.
  • Experience working with pre-pregs, honeycombs, and adhesive materials; Fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for aircraft composite structures.
  • This position requires a current DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as the ability to obtain a Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Basic Qualifications (Sr. Principal Materials Process Engineer):

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science or other STEM degrees along with 9+ years' engineering experience; or MS in STEM along with 7+ years' engineering experience.
  • Experience working with pre-pregs, honeycombs, and adhesive materials; Fabrication, assembly, and repair processes for aircraft composite structures.
  • This position requires a current DOD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as the ability to obtain a Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science Degree or other STEM degree.
  • Experience preparing and presenting oral and written reports.
  • 5+ years of aircraft/spacecraft design experience, including material testing and qualification efforts, detailed drawing reviews, and supporting build.
  • Secret or Top Secret clearance preferred.
  • Experience working on Special Access Programs.
  • Experience working on military aircrafts.

Salary Range: $92,000 USD - $138,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
