Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Instrumentation and Data Engineer (Level 4) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Palmdale, CA. Responsibilities include design, development, verification and acceptance testing of data builds and real time mission control room configuration files using Interactive Analysis and Display System (IADS) software suite.

The primary job responsibilities are, but not limited, to the following:

  • Responsible for design, development, integration, and test of Data Acquisition Systems (DAS).software.
  • Provide software tools for Curtiss-Wright ACRA KAM-500 DAU task file creation, Omega imports, and Param Default files for IADS software.
  • Perform various duties, including engineering design tasks as assigned, electrical design reviews, and procedure writing.
  • Define instrumentation system configurations and signal conditioning requirements for Curtiss-Wright ACRA, Omega Next Gen hardware and software such as sensor selection, installation methods, calibration, and checkout requirements.
  • Perform various duties, including engineering design tasks as assigned, and participate in electrical design reviews and procedure writing.

Basic Qualifications (You must possess these qualifications for this position)

  • BS in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 9 years equivalent experience in instrumentation/data acquisition career field.
  • Must have working experience and familiarity with instrumentation system configurations and signal conditioning requirements for Curtiss-Wright ACRA KAM-500 DAS series or industry equivalent hardware and software such as sensor selection, installation methods, calibration, and checkout requirements.
  • Able to demonstrate understanding of design specifications outlined on electrical, assembly, and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Able to interpret detailed design specifications, product manuals, ICDs, and design schematics.
  • Experience with software development and maintenance.
  • Current Active DOD Secret clearance is required.
  • Be able to obtain and keep Special Program Access to start.
  • Must be able to travel as needed, and occasionally work overtime, odd shifts, and weekend as required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret clearance.
  • Knowledge of telemetry (TM), RF, onboard recording, ground stations, sub-systems, and specialized instrumentation test equipment.
  • Experience in test activities, anomaly resolution, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with integration, test, and operation of DAS telemetry-based COTS DAS.
  • Familiar with engineering development cycle and engineering configuration management concepts.
  • Working knowledge of communication protocols such as MIL-STD 1553, Ethernet, IEEE-1394, ARINC-429, RS232, and RS422.
  • Knowledge or experience navigating MIL-STD documents and specifications.
  • Knowledge or experience with IRIG 106; CH10, CH7, and TM Downlink.

Salary Range: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
