Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Modeling Simulation and Analysis Engineer or Senior Principal Modeling Simulation and Analysis Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Mission Systems Engineering organization. This role can be located in Palmdale CA or Space Park / Redondo Beach, CA, depending on the selected candidate’s preference.

In this role, you will be asked to work in a small team environment to conduct research, develop models, and perform analysis to drive the development of new program requirements, refine existing program system requirements, and influence the pursuit of future technologies and capabilities. You will recommend candidate designs and work with other engineers, including across multiple programs, to develop and refine system capabilities.

Your responsibilities may include any or all of the following:
• Support or lead system analysis, operations analysis and trade study activities to include military requirements analysis, threat system analysis, system survivability analysis, mission performance/effectiveness analysis, and military utility analysis
• Create new and adapt existing models, methods, and analysis capabilities to conduct studies to support the design, development, and assessment of advanced system design concepts and technologies
• Provide blue/red tactics and CONOPS modeling, simulation, and analysis support to accomplish long-term objectives related to program development, execution, and related research and development projects
• Perform mission engineering activities to ensure continuity between desired operational capabilities and delivered system performance, through the Systems Engineering “V”. Ensure performance of new capabilities are traded against cost and mission requirements; develop mission relevant scenarios; assess operational effectiveness of existing and emerging capabilities in representative operational environments
• Communicate across the engineering disciplines and technology areas to integrate capabilities, and communicate technical capabilities and analyses with internal stakeholders and external customers

This position can be filled at either the Principal Modeling Simulation and Analysis Engineer OR Senior Principal Modeling Simulation and Analysis Engineer.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Modeling Simulation and Analysis Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree with 5 years of relevant experience OR 3 years of relevant experience with Master’s Degree OR PhD with 0 years of experience.
  • Must have an active DoD SECRET or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, prior to the commencement of employment. This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Modeling Simulation and Analysis Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree with 9 years of relevant experience OR 7 years of relevant experience with Master’s Degree OR PhD with 4 years of experience.
  • Must have an active DoD SECRET or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, prior to the commencement of employment. This SAP must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • 2 years of Modeling and Simulation work experience.
  • Current Special Access Program (SAP) Clearance.


Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD
Salary Range 2: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
