Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Software Engineering Manager 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This leadership position is located in Palmdale, CA.

This leadership role is responsible for working on software supporting various space, aircraft, and ground systems in all phases of the software development lifecycle including design, development, and test. This position will also work on software systems primarily in written in Python, C and C++, with a focus toward embedded design. This position is for a software development lead with a primary focus on development team leadership. The selected candidate will be the deputy to the software lead of a large software team and/or product owner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop new software modules supporting cutting edge technology
  • Ensure software quality through unit testing
  • Support software integration and system testing
  • Assist in system design and troubleshooting
  • Identify and implement software bug fixes
  • Update and maintain software documentation
  • Keep development teams on track with software deliveries
  • Mentor CSCI leads
  • Interface with all external stakeholders including customers, program management, and QA including having difficult conversations
  • The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.
  • Candidate must be comfortable in both development and lab environments, and be able to collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, and integration/test engineers.  
  • Candidates should have experience with the Python and/or C++ programming languages and object oriented programming.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree AND 9 years of related professional/military engineering experience, OR a Master’s degree AND 7 years of related professional/military engineering experience.
  • Must have experience leading a team OR a development project
  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance, that has a background investigation in the last 6 years or is currently enrolled in continuous evaluation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR). This PAR must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a STEM discipline or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience developing with the VxWorks or Green Hills INTEGRITY Real Time Operating System
  • Must have experience developing software using Python, C or C++
  • Excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward)
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • Must have experience in object oriented programming
  • Must have working knowledge of embedded software design methods
  • Must have experience with formal software life cycle development methodologies, requirements through test
  • Must have experience with one or more Agile methodologies such as SCRUM, Xtreme Programming and/or Kanban
  • Availability to support occasional travel (10%-15)
  • DoD Top Secret clearance

Salary Range: $143,500 USD - $215,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
