Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has openings for Mechanical Engineer - Subsystems Design / Principal Mechanical Engineer - Subsystems Design to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering organization. 

This engineering role can be staffed in Palmdale, CA or Oklahoma City, OK.

The selected candidate will become part of the B-2 Subsystems Design Engineering Team within the Vehicle Engineering Integrated Product Team (IPT). We are looking for engineers with knowledge of subsystems (electrical, hydraulics, fuels, fluids and/or propulsion systems) installations, composite and metallic structures that can create and modify designs in 3D environment of details, assemblies, and installations of secondary structure supporting electrical and other equipment. Other daily activities will have you coordinating with a team from multiple engineering disciplines to determine effective solutions to defects that are innovative, thorough, practical, and consistent with organization objectives.

Basic Qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer:

  • Must have a Bachelors of Science Degree in a STEM related discipline and 2 years of directly related professional/military experience (or a Master’s Degree and 0 years of related professional/military experience).
  • Experience with TeamCenter, CATIA, and/or other CAD programs.
  • Working knowledge of one of the following subsystems: electrical, hydraulics, fuels, fluids or propulsion systems and/or experience with mechanical routing.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

Basic Qualifications for the Principal Mechanical Engineer:

  • Must have a Bachelors of Science Degree in a STEM related discipline and 5 years of directly related professional/military experience (or a Master’s Degree and 3 years of directly related professional/military experience).
  • Experience with TeamCenter, CATIA and/or other CAD programs.
  • Working knowledge of one of the following subsystems: electrical, hydraulics, fuels, fluids or propulsion systems and/or experience in mechanical routing.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to the commencement of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering
  • Experience with 3-D model engineering definition or Model Based Engineering (MBE).
  • Experience with HarnesSys tool for schematic design.
  • Experience providing engineering disposition for parts and assemblies that are damaged or do not meet design requirements.
  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.


Salary Range: $74,900 USD - $112,300 USD
Salary Range 2: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
