We are looking for a Principal Systems Software Safety Engineer to support our Palmdale CA site. 
 
Essential Functions:
 

  • The successful candidate will be a Principal System Software Safety Engineer assigned to the program responsible to develop and deliver systems safety products as required using MIL-STD-882 as guidance.  This position will require the selected candidate to support Hazard Investigation studies, technical assessments, and support implementation of design changes to integrate various upcoming systems into the vehicle architecture. The selected candidate will be responsible for Software developing technical solutions, making technical decisions, performing data analysis, maintaining interface control documentation, conducting trade studies, and other tasks. 
  • Reviews product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems. 
  • Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards. 
  • Develops safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements. 
  • This person will perform Software Safety tasks in Palmdale, CA. This includes the performance of software safety analyses to identify, track, and control potential safety hazards that may influence the safety of personnel, air vehicle, or equipment. Perform Software Hazard Analysis, including review of software requirements specifications, safety-critical software systems, change requests, and peer reviews. Maintain and execute the program software safety and essential function plans.
  • Familiarity with electronic systems and circuits and/or mechanical systems is highly desirable. The ideal candidate would possess a basic knowledge of aircraft concepts and operations, and have experience in the design and development of military aircraft systems, including avionics. Position also requires ability, knowledge and skills in software concept, architecture, requirements, design, code, and test analyses techniques necessary to support safety critical systems/subsystems. The ability to clearly and accurately express engineering findings orally and in written technical reports and presentations is essential. 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering.
  • Must have 7 years related experience. 
  • Active DoD Secret clearance DoE equivalent required to be considered
  • Development experience in C, C++, JAVA, or C#. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment. Understanding of the software development lifecycle. 
  • Ability to obtain DoD Top Secret clearances and program access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Top Secret and Current Program PAR 
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Familiarity with electronic systems and circuits and/or mechanical systems.
  • Proficient at software development and continuous integration practices.
  • Knowledgeable in one or more areas: high assurance software, flight critical software (DO-178), ARINC Standards, CMMI (3-5), hardware/software interfaces, programming of embedded processor utilizing a Real Time Operating System (RTOS), real-time and post processing data analytics, modern HTML UI development stacks, object-oriented programming, design patterns, SQL Server/Database Development, middleware technologies (e.g., DDS, ActiveMQ), application servers (e.g., GlassFish, WebLogic, JBoss)

Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
