The Survivability organization is seeking a Department Manager to join its growing team to lead the Survivability West Department.  We are a growing organization within NGAS, responsible for delivering innovative and effective LO engineering.  The department staff supports all phases of programs, from technology development and early stage concept vehicle designs to programs of record, utilizing industry leading processes and tools.

You will report to the Director of Survivability and will drive daily operational tasks for the department, implementing and maintaining operational excellence. Responsibilities also include the day-to-day operation of the functional organization including Driving the Engineering strategic development and vision at the Sector level. You will set a vision and goals for the organization consistent with higher level guidance and achieve measurable progress toward those goals. You develop and implement departmental vision and strategies to drive program performance, employee development and engagement; improve hiring (Staffing) and retention of top talent; lead products and associated product champions; balance process compliance against innovation; and reduce bureaucracy. The scope of hiring includes both industry as well as university recruiting and relationships. You'll work with the Survivability national organization to build/maintain technical breadth and depth of the department and participate in Center and Sector improvement initiatives.

The successful candidate will coordinate with program IPT counterparts to meet program and organization objectives. You'll help to meet budget targets, staff to meet program requirements, and provide functional leadership and direction to employees. You'll ensure the organization provides appropriate development opportunities, is familiar with and uses required engineering processes and tools, personnel development and planning, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will need to have strong team-building/collaboration skills and have previously demonstrated the ability to build diverse/inclusive teams with engaged team members.

Engineers in this department are located in El Segundo, Redondo Beach, Palmdale, and Rancho Bernardo. Location of this position can be Redondo Beach, Palmdale, or Rancho Bernardo. Position requires up to 25% travel, primarily between Survivability West sites. You will be responsible for an organization of 150+ individuals.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of experience or Master's and 7 years experience.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in areas within Low Observables/Survivability or a related field within the Aerospace & Defense industry
  • Experience in technical, program, or functional management
  • Must have a current DoD Secret clearance and a periodic reinvestigation, or an original adjudication date completed within the last 5 years
  • Previous experience working in a SAP/SAR environment.
  • Ability to obtain SAP access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Special program access(es)
  • Master’s or PhD Degree(s)
  • Knowledge of Survivability processes, procedures, work instructions and technology required to support both management and engineering tasks
  • Previous experience in functional management
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management

Salary Range: $155,400 USD - $233,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
