The Human Resources (HR) team at Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Principal HR Business Partner (HRBP) or Sr. Principal HR Business Partner (HRBP) to join a growing community of committed HR professionals in Palmdale, California. The selected candidate must be able to work in partnership with client groups and HRBP peers across multiple sites. Primary responsibilities include serving as the business partner and consultant to Operations client groups to help build organizational capability to meet sector and organizational strategic goals. Incumbent will develop and implement value-added HR programs and initiatives as well as support all aspects of HR for assigned client group.  Come be a part of securing our nations freedom and make a difference with the work you do.  

The successful candidate will demonstrate how they have supported their prior teams through organization, self-motivation and task ownership skills, with the ability to accomplish complex duties in a high-impact, time sensitive environment.

Additional background and experience:

  • Ability to drive HR initiatives (can start with a blank sheet, design a plan/program/process and execute on a timeline)
  • Strong analytical skills; able to translate business strategy into implications for workforce (hiring, shaping, etc.)
  • Strong relationship building skills; proven track record of building collaborative partnerships as the basis for being able to influence direction and drive change
  • Strong consulting skills; able to dissect the root cause or core problem to solve and bring appropriate solutions and resources to bear
  • Deep talent mindset coupled with practical experience in driving leader development and succession planning strategies/processes
  • Proven track record of being able to assess, diagnose and design creative and innovate organizational solutions
  • Strategic thinking – sees the big picture and connects the dots; also dives into the details as necessary

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:

• Establish intimate understanding of the business, build and expand relationships with client leadership teams, and create close partnerships across the organizations

• Maintain credibility as a subject matter expert in HR policies and procedures

• Identify trends, risks, and opportunities within the organization and develop solutions in partnership with leadership.  Advise leadership on new ideas and winning practices in the areas of talent acquisition, assessment, development, compensation, organizational effectiveness, strategy, on-boarding, change management and communications

• Analyze and concisely present information to the management team to enable business growth and sound decision making

• Provide business insight through data analysis, research and benchmarking

• Play a key change leadership role in the company’s transformation by reinforcing a culture of growth, innovation and calculated risk taking through the application of human capital strategy, tools and processes

• Support and enable leaders to make informed decisions about talent and to hold their organizations accountable for business results

Basic Qualifications for Principal HR Business Partner:

• Bachelor's degree required plus a minimum of 6 years of experience in HR or related field OR Master's with 4 years of relevant experience

• Proven experience in being proactive in building relationship with leaders

• Proficient verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and influence others. Proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Ability to support the business and HR team with minimal task supervision, utilizing relationships to ensure alignment with organizational priorities

• Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to be flexible and adjust direction when needed

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal HR Business Partner:

• Bachelor's degree required plus a minimum of 10 years of experience in HR or related field OR Master's with 8 years of relevant experience

• Proven experience in being proactive in building relationship with leaders

• Proficient verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with and influence others. Proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

• Ability to support the business and HR team with minimal task supervision, utilizing relationships to ensure alignment with organizational priorities

• Advanced problem-solving skills and the ability to be flexible and adjust direction when needed

Preferred Qualifications:

• Preferred degree in Human Resource management, Business, Organization Development, Industrial Organizational Psychology, or related field

• Experience working in a highly competitive labor market where retention and talent acquisition was critical.

• Working knowledge of the Workday platforms and technology

• Experience in proactive HR assessment, diagnosis and solutioning of business challenges

• Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects to completion including organizing, planning, scheduling and following up on all project related items

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance


Salary Range: $83,800 USD - $125,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $103,900 USD - $155,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
