Northrop Grumman Enterprise Services is seeking a Principal Network Communications Engineer; this position will be located in Palmdale, CA. Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Maintain smooth operation of local area, world wide, and virtual private networks (VPN).
  • Plan, evaluate, and coordinate installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of data and/or voice communication network. Maintain technical expertise in all areas of networks and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, etc.
  • May propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings.
  • Prepare and ensure that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.
  • Provide regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for in-house systems.
  • May coordinate third-party maintenance for network equipment.
  • May design network or portion of network that includes selection of hardware and software packages.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree with 6 years of experience, or Bachelors degree with 4 years of experience, or Master's degree with 2 years of experience; a High School diploma or equivalent with 8 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a completed degree.
  • Current DoD Top Secret security clearance.
  • Special Access Programs (SAP/SAR) clearance will be required on Day 1 of employment, and maintaining SAP/SAR will be a condition of continued employment.
  • Experience working with network systems and networking principles, data, voice, or video.
  • Experience with  network risk analysis, modeling, and back-up administration functions.
  • Current DoD 8570 eligible certificate (i.e. Security+CE).
  • Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of networking protocols such Domain Name Server (DNS), Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP).
  • Experience  communicating technical topics to management and non-technical audiences, as well as interface with the customer on a daily basis.
  • Experience with OSPF, static routes, Port-channels, VLANs, GRE tunnels, VPN tunnels, and ACLs .
  • Experience creating  test plans, procedures, and reports for testing of network equipment for both field acceptance testing and acceptance testing at the Integrator’s facility/assembly plant.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Visio, Project, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Cisco CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE certification.
  • Previous experience troubleshooting network  procedures and best practices; experience with network challenges associated with systems integration, including COTS integration, capacity analysis, and system architecture design.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience managing small teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of network analysis tools (e.g., WireShark, OpNet, etc.).

Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
