Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector is hiring a Director 1 of Mission Assurance to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located Palmdale, California, and will have functional leadership responsibilities for the Palmdale site.  

This position will report directly to the VP of Mission Assurance for Palmdale and will be responsible for quality management integration across the site. This leader will serve in a key leadership role providing oversight of the quality management system across a broad set of programs. This includes organization diagnostics and performance consulting for operational performance, leadership, team assessment and program facilitation.

The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • The on-time delivery of high-quality products and services that meet all contractual requirements and business objectives.
  • Providing leadership that fosters an inclusive, motivated and engaged work culture.
  • Managing direct/indirect budgets and capital asset expenditures.
  • Driving the continuous improvement of people (to include training & development), products, processes, systems, and services through the application of innovative technologies, lean principles, six-sigma projects, common best practices and other appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Staffing, cost, schedule, and quality performance.
  • Communications with various executive level leaders, internal workforce, and external customers.
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with mission assurance programs, policies, processes, procedures and that the performance and quality of products/processes conform to established standards, specifications, and agency guidelines.
  • Provide expertise and guidance in interpreting policies, regulatory and/or governmental regulations, and agency guidelines to assure compliance.
  • Support the development phase of programs by assuring engineering products and processes conform to internal and customer requirements.
  • Work directly with operating entities such as engineering and manufacturing to ensure that inspections, process control analyses and audits are conducted on a continuing basis to enforce requirements and compliance.
  • Provide change agility expertise, designing and developing organization change efforts in support of the long-range strategic plan (LRSP) and annual operating plans (AOP).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor's degree AND 9+ years of related professional/military experience within the Aerospace and Defense industry that includes a background in leadership positions, OR a Master’s degree and 7+ years of related professional/military experience within the Aerospace and Defense industry that includes a background in leadership positions.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance that is in-scope (granted or renewed in the last 6 years).
  • Must be able to attain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
  • Must have a strong background in NAS412 FOE/FOD compliance practices.
  • Must have a solid understanding on Non-Destructive Inspection methods and application per the NAS410 standards.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Special Program Access (PAR)
  • Extensive Leadership experience, preferably within the Aerospace and Defense industry
  • 8 years of direct Aerospace Quality experience 
  • MS or MBA degree highly preferred

Salary Range: $180,200 USD - $270,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
