We are seeking a talented Staff Systems Test Engineer to join our team in Plymouth, MN. If you are a dynamic and motivated professional looking to join an innovative team, working on cutting-edge technology – this may be the role for you.  

This position supports programs in the Fuzing and Warheads Operating Unit and is considered a technical expert for program activities of significant complexity and scope.  Specifically, the successful candidate should have expertise with data acquisition, filtering, power spectral density, Shock Response Spectrum (SRS) and vibration control methods.

The successful candidate should also be experienced with environmental, EMI/EMC and energetic testing to enable execution of consistent and robust  test engineering programs.  Responsibilities include planning and execution of test programs, interfacing with internal and external customers and results analysis and reporting.  

Job Summary:

  • Creates and manages large scale system and subsystem test program plans.

  • Working closely with design IPTs to develop methodologies to test system and subsystem hardware.

  • Provide shock and vibration signal analysis support. 

  • Support the planning of the verification and validation program. Document the approach, philosophy, guidelines, and processes to perform and manage verification activities.

  • Leads, prepares and presents Systems Test  engineering materials during formal program reviews.

  • Leads and directs the testing and/or evaluation/validation of complete system and subsystem test programs.

  • Leads and / or supports failure and analysis activities.

  • Performs and manages cost estimates and project planning for a significant portion of larger project

  • Performs CAM duties: manage cost, schedule, technical performance and monthly EVMS reporting.

  • Reviews and approves TE developed artifacts.

  • Partners with project management, project leads and engineers, and functional management.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Engineering is required; Mechanical, Systems or Aerospace degree is strongly preferred

  • 14 years of related engineering design experience, including 5 years in a related technical leadership capacity

  • Demonstrated expertise with data acquisition, filtering, power spectral density, Shock Response Spectrum

  • Demonstrated expertise with vibration control methods

  • Experience troubleshooting system thermal and dynamic behaviors

  • Understanding of finite element analysis for structural analysis and thermal analysis of designs

  • Familiar with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-331, MIL-STD-2105, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures

  • Six Sigma and design for assembly / design for manufacturing (DFA/DFM) experience

  • Experience with cost account management and reporting, preferably Earned Value Management System (EVMS)

  • Strong understanding of computer aided design (CAD)

  • Familiarity with model based system engineering processes and tools, such as Cameo System Modeler and DOORS

  • U.S. Citizenship: must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance

  • Travel: Approximately 8-12 times per year to meet with customers and suppliers

  • Previous defense industry experience

  • Able to multi-task and delegate effectively; and possess exceptional time management skills

  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team leadership environment

  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, Power Point, Project)

Salary Range: $135,400 USD - $203,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
