Northrop Grumman Armament Systems is seeking a Principal Software Quality Assurance Engineer - part time position.  This position will be located in Plymouth, MN and will support multiple programs at various stages of development as well as help to maintain and support use of quality associated databases.

This position develops, modifies, applies, and maintains standards for software quality operating methods, processes, systems, and procedures. Familiar with established software development standards, such as DoD-STD-2167A and CMMI certified Capability/Maturity Level 3.  Conducts software inspection, testing, verification, and validation. Implements software development and maintenance processes and methods. Ensures measures meet acceptable reliability standards. Develops overall operating criteria to ensure implementation of the software quality program according to project, process and contract requirements and objectives. Ensures that project and process control documentation are compliant with requirements, objectives and/or contract. Reviews software design, change specifications, and plans against contractual and/or process requirements. Performs or directs verification of software requirement allocations, traceability, and testability.

What You’ll Get to Do:  Principal Engineer, Software Quality Assurance – The selected candidate will be responsible for working with one or more software development teams / Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).

Our focus is on ensuring process execution, defect detection and efficiencies in the development, testing, and release of the software deliverables.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Participate and facilitate the Peer Review process using established action item collection tools and document the results using predefined criteria specified by checklists.

  • Participate in the Change Management and Change Control (CMCC) process. 

  • Conduct process audits to approved plans and procedures as necessary at specific inspection points and document the results in formal audit reports.

  • Evaluate software documentation products using established procedures.

  • Lead/Participate in software Functional Qualification Testing (FQTs).

  • Develop and implement Software Quality Assurance plans.

  • Participate in Test Readiness Reviews.

  • Verify test facilities, equipment and software products are adequate, calibrated and controlled.

  • Support individual scrum/sprint teams. Provide improvement suggestions to software engineering team.

  • Develop and use metrics for process health and performance monitoring.

  • Ensure software is in compliance with defense industry guidelines and contractual requirements.

  • Contribute to maintaining process metrics when required.

  • Support continuous improvement activities through the Continuous Improvement process and database

  • Interface with Software Engineering, Mission Assurance, Program Quality, Supplier Quality and other internal partners

  • This position is a 20 hour per week, half time position.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Software Quality Engineer - BS Degree with 5 years of Software or Software QA experience, 4 additional years of experience may be used in lieu of a degree or Master's Degree with 3 years of experience.

  • US Citizenship

  • Familiarity with CMCC tools such as StarTeam, JIRA, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability for prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.

  •  Excellent people skills, to work with internal customers and suppliers on software quality improvement activities.

  • Experience in evaluation, tracing, and analysis of requirements

  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiar with established defense software development standards, such as DoD-STD-2167A and CMMI certified Capability/Maturity Level 3

  • Experience in working in or / leading a Cross Functional Team environment.

  • ASQ Certified Software Quality Engineer

  • Active Security Clearance or ability to obtain a Security Clearance.

  • Experience in the Defense industry working on design or production programs

  • Experience in process monitoring, data collection, analysis, and metric reporting for a large program/supplier-base.


Salary Range: $96,900 USD - $145,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
