Northrop Grumman’s Business Unit, Armament Systems, is seeking a Sr. Program Director I to support our Guided Projectiles portfolio of programs. This position is located in Plymouth, MN.

Position Summary:
Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has a challenging and exciting opportunity for an experienced Program Director in the Guided Projectiles business area, located in Plymouth, MN. The Program Director will be responsible for leading the Advanced Systems Portfolio for the Guided Projectiles Operating Unit. Primary responsibilities will be management of a multidisciplinary Integrated Program Teams (IPTs), program managers and interfacing with both U.S. Department of Defense, all services, and functional leaders across the business unit. The role champions continued superior performance, relationship building, strategic value creation, innovation and future growth opportunities with in-country partners and a wide customer base. The experienced Program Director will provide input into program financial and strategic planning, reporting and accountabilities for profit and loss that includes annual operation forecasts and project estimated profit projections.

Position Description:
• This position is responsible for the following:
• Leading and managing the execution (profit and loss) and overall success of multiple programs.
• Provide overall leadership and direction to the program teams located in Plymouth MN (to include coaching team members, resolving conflict, addressing resource needs, and initiating corrective actions, if necessary).
• Drive timely and clearly communicated decisions, awareness, and escalations to segment leadership.
• Establish and clearly communicate overall program objectives, mission, vision and strategy to internal and external stakeholders.
• Build and maintain successful relationships with the customers.
• Develop and Mentor Program Managers.
• Develop technical and business strategies for the portfolio
• Maintain proper program budget and schedule by utilizing Earned Value principles and tools
• Manage risk and opportunities. Identify potential issues and problems that could impact program performance, and take proactive action to resolve issues regarding cost and schedule.
• Develop pursuit strategies with Business Development and Business Unit; facilitate follow-on contracts
• Direct all phases of programs from inception through completion.
• Responsible for the cost, schedule and technical performance of company programs or subsystems of major programs.
• Participates in the negotiation of contracts and contract changes.
• Coordinates the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract.
• Acts as primary customer contact for program activities, leading program review sessions with customer to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.
• Develops new business or expands the product line with the customer; Develop orders and sales to support business unit financial goals
• Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans and schedules, identifies program problems and obtains solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications.
• Directs the work of employees assigned to the program from technical, manufacturing and administrative areas.

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelors' degree in engineering. Master’s degree in engineering or business administration.
• Ten to Fifteen years of successful Program Management experience. Execution and direct P&L responsibility experience required.
• Previous experience developing and leading other Program Managers, increasing morale and empowering team.
• Ability to operate and lead in a team environment, and teach and mentor others to manage in same way.
• Develop annual budgets plans for IR&D, proposals and selling, capital needs
• Demonstrated experience managing risk to reduce likelihood and severity of program impacts, experience with complex systems and an understanding of systems engineering.
• Experience in a mechanical, electrical or electro-mechanical systems.
• Direct experience with Program Baseline Execution.
• Understand and clearly communicate internally: revenue, profit, risk exposure, and cash performance of the program.
• Ability to resolve disputes and negotiate with positive outcome while maintaining good relationships with customers (internal and external).
• Understanding of Earned Value Management and execution principles (Agile, Performance Enterprise System, etc.)
• Defense Industry experience
• Able to Travel: approximately 25% of the time, mostly domestic and occasionally overseas
