  • Designs sounding rocket payload primary and secondary structural components, including skins, decks, brackets, mechanisms, and component packaging.
  • Designs sounding rocket vehicle/motor structural components including fins, tail cans, interstages, and develops associated vehicle procedures
  • Designs components and systems for ground support equipment including sounding rocket class launchers and high pressure pneumatic support systems.
  • Performs structural analysis on sounding rocket hardware and ground support hardware to validate the design.
  • Creates documentation for designs and present the same to a panel of peers and customers for review.
  • Coordinates fabrication efforts with machine shop.  This includes generating engineering drawings/documentation, submitting drawings to the shop, and providing oversight and direction to shop personnel as need during fabrication.
  • Coordinates environmental testing of sounding rocket components, subassemblies and full payloads.  This includes defining test plans and test loads, coordinating testing, and interpreting and presenting test results.
  • Provides mission field support when needed during testing and launch operations.

Basic Qualifications:  
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) and 2 years of experience OR Master’s Degree and 0 years’ experience
  • Effective communication, documentation, and problem solving skills
  • SolidWorks (or equivalent) 3D design modeling experience
  • Ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Strong knowledge of common manufacturing practices and techniques (design for manufacturing) is highly desired, including metal and composite structures
  • Structural finite element analysis experience
  • Dynamics and thermal analysis experience
