The Propulsion Systems, a business unit within NGSP, is seeking a Senior Director (D2) of Commercial Programs. This is a senior program director position with direct profit loss responsibility for this portfolio of programs and products (GEM, Orion, and CASTOR® solid rocket motors). The Director supervises all Program Directors and Managers within the Commercial Segment and leads customer interface with senior officials within Prime Contractors, Missile Defense Agency, USSF, etc.
The position is located in Magna, Utah.
Role Description and Responsibilities:
Excellent leadership skills aligned with the company’s values; integral part of Propulsion Systems leadership team participating with a seat at the table, candor, respect and alignment to PS and NGC goals and values
Demonstrates the importance of a strong culture of accountability, excellence, employee engagement, and belonging.
Leads program strategy development that integrates with the overall business and strategy and establishes goals to meet that strategy. This includes strategies to expand the use of GEM, Orion, and CASTOR® motors through disciplined shaping and capture processes.
Develops and participates in the long-range strategic planning process (LRSP)
Execute multiple programs successfully by managing safety, quality, schedule, delivery, and cost (P&L responsibility) for cost plus and fixed price contracts
Creatively directs proposal preparation to ensure the proposal is competitive, creative with respect to commercial pricing and yet meets the company’s business strategy, compliance standards, customer needs, and provides a proper base for successful negotiations and program performance
As a merchant supplier understand the need for protecting customer information and business strategy including the use of nondisclosure agreements and firewalls.
Manage contract negotiations, endorse final price and contract terms and resolve contract issues
Drive technical excellence by setting program standards, challenging threats, balancing risk, and delivering performance
Oversee the development of program plans and critical milestones
Meet master program plans and schedules by identifying and assessing risks, and initiating necessary corrective action
Serves as a company representative to customers, ensuring there is a understanding of core capabilities and provides customers with creative business and technical solutions for their propulsion requirements
Service the customer by executing the program and resolving issues in accordance with business objectives, strategy, legal requirements, regulations, contract terms, and company policies
Provide overall leadership and direction to the program team that include coaching team members, resolving conflict, reviewing performance, and initiating process improvement and corrective actions when necessary
Set role and performance expectations, and provide ongoing feedback and performance appraisals, and develop future program leaders
Provides direction internal functional teams and ensures strategic teaming and positioning with key suppliers and subcontractors.
Identifies appropriate organizational structures and teaming arrangements to meet contract commitments or strategic pursuits
Oversee program planning and execution through applicable phases including concept, exploration, engineering development, advanced development, production, sustainment, and retirement to continuously drive results
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years leading team with multiple disciplines
A thorough knowledge of program management for development and production programs
Experience managing major programs or portfolio of programs in excess of $150M annual revenue with contracts being primarily Firm Fixed Price.
An understanding of business and strategy development and comfortable working in a highly competitive propulsion marketplace.
Experience working with Space Launch and DoD customers and their partners. Understand of the acquisition and budgeting process, for government and commercial customers.
General knowledge of business systems, including understanding of EVMS and Risk and Opportunity Management, and contract management
Demonstrated experience leading managers and teams engaged in executing multiple contracts and customers
Possess the proven ability to provide verbal and written information clearly, succinctly, and persuasively
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in science, engineering or other relevant business acumen (Leadership, Finance, etc.)
15 years of management experience and leading teams in multiple disciplines in both development and production environments.
Experience working with high-ranking military officials, prime contractor, and commercial executives is desired.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
