Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector Manufacturing Operations Engineering Organization is seeking a Principal Project Industrial Engineer for our site near BWI Airport in Maryland.

The Principal Project Industrial Engineer (IE) will support all industrial engineering related needs for a designated program or group of programs. The project IE will provide a system level view to the program(s), support all levels of the build for the program(s), and act as the primary liaison between the program(s) and the Industrial Engineering team.
A Principal Project Industrial Engineer works closely with a team of cell IE’s and the program leadership teams to provide support for:
Capacity Analysis
Monitor capital resource loading and develop plans for capacity management
Lead program capacity analysis and reviews
Conduct Floor Space Capacity and Workbench Utilization analyses
Work with program to develop and maintain IMS schedules
Provide system level view of cycle time and lead time
May contribute to analyses to determine tooling or manpower requirements
Work with program leadership to assess what-if scenarios and guide long-term strategic decision making
Continuous Improvement Activities (direct support for and benefit to the program)
Analyze manufacturing processes for opportunities to control/reduce cost, minimize scrap, control inventory, increase capacity, and/or optimize schedule
Lead Continuous Improvement activities (e.g. 5-S, VSM, Kaizen, 6-Sigma)
Resource planning and staffing analysis
Work with program to load and maintain forecast schedule
Evaluate future demand to determine Operations resource requirements
Support program ramp and proposals
System Process Development and Material/Product Flow
Develop process flows and conceptual layouts for all levels of the products
Support development of process simulation models to evaluate process design
Optimize system flow between cells across the site
Additional Responsibilities
Lead facility project execution for Manufacturing
Prepare and deliver executive level presentations to operations and program leadership
Lead cross-functional project teams as an interface between program and operations to support program objectives
Basic Qualifications for a Principal Engineer:
Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or other STEM area
5 years of relevant experience; candidates with a Master's degree and 3 years of experience will be considered
Industrial Engineering experience or Manufacturing experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in Industrial Engineering
An advanced degree (MS)
Professional experience in Industrial Engineering
Experience with SAP or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
Experience in defense, aerospace, or automotive industries
Technical experience working in a manufacturing/production environment
