Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an exciting career opportunity for a Staff Systems Engineer – LO Reliability, Maintainability & Supportability to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be reporting out of Northrop Grumman’s South Bay Systems & Specialty Engineering Center of Excellence (CoE) located in Redondo Beach, CA.


Position Overview:

The qualified applicant will support a diverse portfolio of research and technology development activities. As part of your assignment, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to determine how survivability technologies can best be integrated into air-based systems within the NGAS portfolio. As well, this position may have project leadership responsibilities and include support of proposal efforts.

Northrop Grumman is one of the industry leaders in Stealth Technology. As such, we are involved in all phases of development, production, and maintenance of Low Observable (LO) platforms. We are currently looking for experienced Low Observable / Survivability Engineers to work on a variety of challenging projects. One area where we are in need of talent is Integration/Supportability.

Essential Duties: 

  • Perform Supportability Readiness Assessments (SRA) of low to mid TRL systems/technology
  • Oversee LO repair and maintenance techniques and operations, perform LO inspections, and verifications (Tier 0-2)
  • Perform and lead LO materials and logistical support in the field
  • Apply previous experiences in design, fabrication, indoor and outdoor test, and data post-processing to verify survivable designs at the component and system level
  • Lead a diverse team of junior LO engineers from a variety of backgrounds toward a single goal. Translate overall system or company goals into discrete tasks in support of that goal, often guiding or steering the team toward the completion of the tasks. Share your knowledge and expertise with junior engineers to help them grow in their career
  • Communicate across the engineering disciplines and technology areas to integrate capabilities, and communicate technical capabilities and analyses with internal stakeholders and external customers (government customers and company leadership)

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline and 14 years of related engineering experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM and 12 years of related engineering experience, OR a PhD Degree in a STEM and 9 years of related engineering experience
  • Familiarity with current LO repair and maintenance techniques and operations
  • Proficiency with LO inspection and verification technologies (Tier 0-2)
  • Knowledge with LO material systems and logistical/support required for use in the field
  • Effective project management skills, strong leadership qualities, and good communication
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Powerpoint and Excel
  • A current active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher is required to start, with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with RCS data processing tools, such as Knowbell or Pioneer (highly desired)
  • Experience proposing and running successful R&D efforts to develop survivable components and technology, including budget, schedule, tasking, and review of technical products
  • Experience with in-house or commercial Method of Moments codes such as SENTRi or HFSS
  • Experience working with model fabrication teams and test facilities
  • Experience with Tier 3-5 Inspection techniques and technology
  • Prior experience in related survivability components such as propulsion and airframe technologies
  • Technical leadership experience, translating stakeholder or customer requirements into executable project plans and managing to successful completion
  • Military aircraft maintainer experience
  • An active U.S. Government issued DoD Top Secret security clearance and/or previous SAP/SAR clearance

Salary Range: $156,000 USD - $234,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
