Strategic Space Systems Division has an opening for an Principal Engineer Manufacturing to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

   

Position is for an engineering and planning supporting Mechanical hardware production areas. The candidate will support efforts for the engineering and work instruction generation/process planning function.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Translating contractual requirements into detailed Work Instructions and MBOMs using Solumina MES and SAP MRP software tools, documenting tooling and shop aids to assist in the manufacturing, assembly and testing of hardware

  • Reviews requirements to ensure completeness of work instruction

  • Implementation of processes, procedures for machined parts, composites and assemblies including order of operations for Solumina work instructions and floor discrepancies

  • Develops and executes process flows and integration plans

  • Understanding and interpretation of Process (PR) specifications and (Fabrication Inspection Procedure) FIPPS

  • Applies experiential skills to the development of work instructions and testing of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical systems, instruments, and/or controls 

  • Candidate must possess strong communication and technical writing skills, a demonstrated understanding of mechanical principles, and an ability and desire to learn and problem solve. Experience with mechanical test or manufacturing is desired.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 5 years of technical experience OR Master’s Degree plus 3 years of technical experience OR High School Diploma/General Education Diploma (G.E.D) plus 9 years of technical experience.

  • Experience supporting manufacturing or integration and test.

  • Candidate must be able to obtain an active U.S. Government security clearance at the Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years, OR must be able to obtain an active U.S. Government SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within the last 5 years.  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active SCI Clearance

  • Master of Science in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) related field plus zero years of engineering experience 

  • Manufacturing experience

  • Integration and Test experience

  • Quality Inspection Experience

  • Experience with mechanical assembly and integration techniques

  • Ability to operate in a large team environment

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Excellent technical writing skills


Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
