Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an opening for an Operations & Training Manager 2 located in Redondo Beach, CA.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading a co-located team of 12-15 System Engineers working to develop system operations and training products and tools for spacecraft and ground elements.  Must display strong leadership characteristics and stay actively engaged in growth and development of a small and dynamic team

  • Responsible for meeting business goals for engineering cost and schedule for scope of work as assigned

  • Oversee and manage the engineering design, development, review and demonstration of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Oversee and manage the development & review of Operations Training materials and the preparation and execution of Operations Training Classes

  • Oversee and manage the development, testing and deployment of SW tools used to maintain delivered products

  • Own the overall technical quality and performance, budget (cost), and schedule for the engineering content of the assigned scope of work and execute the periodic Cost Account Reporting mechanisms

  • Serve as the interface to the Ground Element SEIT SPM, Chief Engineer, and other IPT leads to coordinate IPT technical and programmatic status and issues

  • Serve as the interface to the Engineering Discipline/Department Managers to coordinate staffing requirements and ensure proper skill mix to support IPT activities.

  • Interface with end users to assure development meets customer needs

  • Looking for strong background in operations, software testing, troubleshooting, and the process of SW review board

  • Provide and respond to corrective actions in a timely manner.

  • Quickly adapt to changing processes and identify paths to resolve issues

  • Experience with Red Hat LINUX operating systems and PERL for script writing is beneficial.

  • Some foreign and domestic travel may be required.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 5+ years of engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 3+ years of engineering experience

  • Prior experience leading a team/process/project requiring management of cost and schedule performance

  • Prior experience engaging with the customer community and influencing Program decisions

  • Active DoD Top Secret/SSBI and/or SCI

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Program experience

  • Strong planning, organizational, and communications skills

  • Prior IPT Leadership experience

  • Master's Degree in Business Administration, Systems Engineering, or a related field

  • Familiarity with scripting languages (tcl/TK, Perl, Python, C++, Visual Basic), SQL Server, MATLAB and/or other analysis and trending tools. Red Hat LINUX operating systems

  • Ability to deal effectively with competing priorities and deadlines, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment while demonstrating a professional attitude


Salary Range: $143,500 USD - $215,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
