Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for two Department Managers, the Electrical Power Systems and Design Integration (EPSDI) organization and the Mechanisms and Deployable Products (MDP) organization. Both positions will be located in Redondo Beach, California, and report functionally to the Director of Vehicle and Software Engineering (VSE) Directorate.

The EPSDI Department Manager and MDP Department Manager will both lead a team of 100+ engineers.  

The Department Manager will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Providing the vision and strategy for your department, collaborating across VSE and in alignment with leadership and corporate goals, which include leading change and hiring and staffing, championing digital transformation (DT) and process excellence initiatives, improving operational efficiency and building a robust pipeline of department talent
  • Driving engineering execution, developing talent, building strong teams, and solving complex technical problems within your department
  • Overseeing and managing program/project reviews, NCTA/Capital/IRAD/DT activities and process improvement plans, proposal review, and signoff, which includes proposal support, independent technical reviews, program standup reviews, and technical audits
  • Managing personnel (direction & compliance), communication, coordination of job assignments, staffing, recruiting, timecard approvals, and performance reviews

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university with 7 years of experience in the Space and/or Defense industry OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Top Secret and SCI clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret and SCI clearances
  • EPSDI: Experience with the design, development, and implementation of two of six electrical areas (Solar Array, Battery, Electrical Power Systems, Electrical Design Integration, Cable and Harness or Master Command and Telemetry Database)
    MDP: Experience with the design, development, and implementation of mechanical or opto-mechanical subsystems
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or a related STEM degree from an accredited university
  • 15 years of space and defense industry experience
  • Possess exceptional communication skills across all levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to lead and influence a high-performance team

Salary Range: $171,000 USD - $256,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
