Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for a Staff Systems Engineer - Technical Operations Lead - 5 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

As a Technical Operations Lead, you will provide direct support to programs, act as an independent reviewer, support/lead trouble shooting and failure investigations, and work with the functional departments to develop processes for equipment and facilities requirements. You will have a great opportunity to see what NG works on, working with both internal and external personnel, while developing various skills critical to successfully executing programs at NG.

Roles and Responsibilities Include:

  • Act in a supporting role, attending meetings with the Fellows, filling in for the Fellows in meetings that they cannot support, preparing briefings, presenting to a variety of internal and external personnel, and more.

  • There will a combination of long term assignments, as well as short term dynamic tasks to help deal with critical challenges.

  • Use your problem solving skills and coordination skills with various subject matter experts, and communications across a broad scope of roles and personnel.

  • Participate in Non-Advocate Reviews (NARs), Program Startup Reviews (PSRs), Independent Reviews for programs and in-advance of design reviews and more.

  • Support and work on 10+ programs over the course of the year, and have the opportunity for travel to support supplier assessments, SSSD operations, and work performed by other divisions.

  • During this effort, the applicant will have the ability to shadow the various Fellows that represent Global Supply Chain, Electrical Design Integration & Test, Environmental Test, Manufacturing, and Parts Materials and Processes.

This position is viewed as a rotational role with the intent that the Chief Engineer and Fellow team will help find an appropriate role for the applicant after 1 year to transition to. As part of this role the applicant can leverage their exposure to the various programs to help select an area of interest and where they future advance their career.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) from an accredited university with 14 years of experience in the space and defense industry; OR Master's Degree in STEM with 12 years of experience in the space and defense industry; OR a PhD in STEM with 9 years of experience in the space and defense industry

  • Experience in a technical background with-in Engineering, Production, and/or Test.

  • Candidate must be able to acquire and maintain a Department of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years – AND/OR – Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 6 years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance

  • Masters Degree in Systems Engineering, and/or Mechanical Engineering

  • Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work with diverse groups.

  • Independent, responsible, self-motivated, driven, personable and well-organized. Does not require strong supervision.

  • High attention to detail.

  • Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations.

  • Ability to travel as needed.

Salary Range: $156,000 USD - $234,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
