Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space Systems Division, has an opening for a Manager Mechanical Engineering 2 to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

These are highly dynamic, interactive positions. You will interact with numerous stakeholders including program management, systems engineering, flight hardware design engineers and logistical support services. Outstanding organizational and leadership skills are required to succeed in these roles.

The Mechanical Engineering & Ground Support Department (ME&GS) within Integration, Test & Launch (IT&L) is looking for a functional section manager who will also provide technical leadership to space programs and engineering team.

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Staffing support to all space systems and space programs.

  • Conducting periodic performance evaluations, including mid-year and annual reviews

  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to the staff

  • Managing indirect and capital needs

  • Professional development and mentoring of direct reports

  • Supporting Functional Homeroom initiatives and projects which include process improvement, Event Response Teams, Corrective, and Preventive Action implementation

PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Define mechanical test engineering assignments and priorities across multiple platforms

  • Manage mechanical test procedure development, review, and readiness

  • Evaluate and standardize current program mechanical test engineering processes

  • Develop synergy and execution consistency across program portfolios

  • Contribute to the development of both near and longer term staffing plans

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline plus 5 years of engineering experience OR Masters of Science Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline plus 3 years of engineering experience

  • Proven leadership experience on a project and/or team

  • Experience in the Aerospace and Defense industry

  • Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances: Dept of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years OR SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years OR Dept of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years

  

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of spacecraft sub assemblies and/or integration and test

  • Experience in space systems and space system production, integration and test

  • Program project experience 


Salary Range: $130,500 USD - $195,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
