We have an opening for a either a Hardware Systems Engineer (level 2) or a Principal Hardware Systems Engineer (level 3) to join our qualified, diverse team in Redondo Beach, CA.

You will support a small team of engineers to define, develop, decompose, analyze, verify, and validate requirements for the ground segment of a satellite system. In this role, you will be interacting with the customer and leadership to define and maintain the technical baseline. Ultimately, it is your responsibility to develop the requirements and models necessary to guide the hardware sub-contractors in the construction of ground modems. You will be a subject matter expert in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and have the skills necessary to assess sub-contractor offerings for ground station hardware and equipment.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Developing requirements for modems and Front End Processors (FEP) for ground terminals (Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
  • Developing requirements for S and K band ground terminals
  • Creating electrical diagrams, signal flow diagrams
  • Designing power systems, DC and low voltage AC
  • Calculating signal loss and link budgets
  • Analyzing tactical datalinks and fiber-optic links
  • Developing
  • High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) and environmentally hardened systems
  • Interacting with customers and contractors to understand the end-user system design needs

This requisition may be filled at either a Hardware Systems Engineer level or a Principal Hardware Systems Engineer level

Basic Qualifications for Hardware Systems Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with 2 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in STEM
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance
  • Experience with modems and Front End Processors (FEP)
  • Experience with S and K band ground terminals
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML, or Came
  • Familiarity with MS-Office, DOORS, Jira & Agile Processes

Basic Qualifications for Principal Hardware Systems Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with 5 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in STEM with 3 years of relevant exp
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance
  • Experience with modems and Front End Processors (FEP)
  • Experience with S and K band ground terminals
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML, or Came
  • Familiarity with MS-Office, DOORS, Jira & Agile Processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active DoD Clearance

Salary Range: $101,200 USD - $151,800 USD
Salary Range 2: $125,500 USD - $188,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
