SSSD has an opening for a Sr. Principal Engineer Systems Test to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

The Sr. Principal Engineer Systems Test will participate in all phases of the integration and test of both spacecraft and payload systems. Specific assignments will include requirements definition, development and execution of RF and digital test procedures, subsystem and test set troubleshooting, development of data analysis tools, test data review and analysis, participation in formal system testing, and anomaly resolution.

Additional responsibilities include updating/generating Test Plans, evaluating requirements, generating electronic procedures, generating updating Automated Test Scripts, becoming familiar with test applications and test requirements, performing the calibration/validation for test racks, performing test equipment movement and setup, performing functional testing and documenting/ troubleshooting test anomalies.

Payload Test Engineers support the entire Integration and Test flow including Test Set Requirements development and design reviews, TIS Development in interfacing with our software team, Test Script Development, Test Procedure & Interconnect Drawing development, Integration, Checkout, Integrated System Test, Environmental Tests, and final delivery. Other responsibilities include coming up to speed on both the deliverable hardware and Test Set architecture, eventually becoming the POC for one of the critical subsystems.

Payload Test Engineers also function in a Test Conductor capacity which includes test execution, manual measurements, visual inspections, deliverable hardware walk-arounds, test set moves, test set validations, and shift support.

The working schedule In-Person and is typically 9/80, but the schedule will require shift work, weekend work, over-time/EWW, holiday/shutdown, and domestic travel to support program objectives.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution plus 9 years of engineering experience OR Masters of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution plus 7 years of engineering experience.

  • knowledge of Radio-Frequency (RF), digital Instrumentation and Command and Data Handling.

  • Experience in writing manufacturing work instructions and/or test procedures and/or coordinating manufacturing assembly & tests.

  • Experience with SAP or MES Tools

  • Must have and maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance OR SCI Access.

Preferred qualifications:

  • I&T experience

  • Ability to operate in a large Integration and Test environment

  • Ability to function as a member of a team

  • Experience with RF Test Equipment

  • Experience with RF and DC cables

  • Experience troubleshooting anomalous hardware and software

  • Experience in test script development

  •    Basic Programming Skills in one or more of these areas: Python, C, MATLAB, Excel

  • Excellent communication skills

  •   Excellent technical writing skills


Salary Range: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
