SSSD has an opening for a Systems Engineering Manager 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.

The Space Vehicle Affordability Manager role is responsible for the development of affordability objectives for SVs within the ARIS BU and will influence the development of the overall affordability objectives for the ARIS BU. The role will report to the ARIS BU SV Director and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

a. Identification, justification, and recommendation of affordable solutions, including the coordination of necessary updates to requirements allocation, design for manufacturing, tooling, techniques, process improvements and any other cost lowering and schedule shortening initiatives. These changes would be introduced directly as contracts changes or coordinated as cost and schedule opportunities. The individual would be responsible for defining the opportunity and the necessary steps to on-ramp realization as well as have responsibility for coordinating the execution with relevant APMs and SPMs.

b. Significant coordination across the SV IPT and into adjacent organizations and supporting functions to ensure consistent and fair estimates of affordability. Acts as an advisor to the various subproject managers within the SV IPT. A firm understanding of customer expectations and contractual responsibilities is critical to avoid significant expenditures of resources on non-value added initiatives.

c. Support and influence development of long-term strategic vision for cost and schedule reduction initiatives necessary to successfully capture and execute future programs. A solid understanding of engineering competitive analysis is necessary. In support of this, the individual must maintain awareness of technology and process development innovations across the enterprise and coordinate and/or evaluate their applicability to ARIS BU SVs. Using this understanding, strategic opportunities will be defined that can affect budget definition for capital, NCTA, and drive longer term affordability targets.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 9+ years of engineering experience OR
- Master’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 7+ years of engineering experience OR
- PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 4+ years of engineering experience

- Experience with Affordability/Cost Reduction Initiatives

- Experience working with and presenting to program, capture, and functional executive leadership.  
- Knowledge in EVMS
- Experience working with Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
- Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, an active SCI clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience developing cost estimates
- Experience and background knowledge of the ARIS BU

Salary Range: $156,000 USD - $234,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
