Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Sector is seeking a F-35 Systems Engineering Manager 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.  This leadership role is located in Redondo Beach, CA.

This Senior Engineering Manager position is responsible for providing leadership oversight of the Vehicle Systems, Avionics, Subsystems, Weapons Integration, and Systems Engineering Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).  Role includes responsibility, accountability and authority for the technical execution and performance of the five IPTs with scope that includes mechanisms, subsystems design of harnessing/cabling/tubing routed within or through the center fuselage, physical and functional weapons integration, systems engineering and flight test support, vehicle systems requirements and supplier management for the CNI/EW Racks, Arresting Hook System, Weapons Bay Door Drive System, and Fire Protection System.  The supplier management responsibilities require internal cross-functional interactions as well as interfacing directly with Supplier leadership teams to build relationships, monitor product quality, and ensure product performance meets requirements and is maintained in a fast-paced, dynamic production environment.  This includes responsibility for monitoring the technical program execution of four major subcontractors with both, domestic and international suppliers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a diverse, multi-function team executing a portfolio of engineering activities supporting the F-35 platform.
  • Leads concurrent performance of development, sustaining, and sustainment activities.
  • Manages the cost, schedule, and technical performance of five Integrated Product Teams.
  • Coordinates or assists with the preparation of proposals, business plans, supplier statement of work statements and specifications, subcontract technical evaluations, IPT staffing and performance evaluation.
  • Acts as primary customer contact for IPT activities and provides leadership visibility for relevant statement of work.
  • Supports the F-35 Chief and Deputy Chief Engineer in setting the direction and strategy for successfully accomplishing F-35 engineering objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 9 years of related professional/military experience OR 7 years with Master's degree required.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in a Technical Leadership role
  • Prior experience with the design, manufacturing, assembly, or test of flight hardware.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Systems Engineering
  • Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Prior technical experience related to Space or Air Vehicle design, along with a track record of leading a highly skilled team and suppliers in the design, integration and production phases of such products and systems within schedule, labor, and material cost requirements.
  • Experience with the design, development, and implementation of aerospace mechanical systems as well as a working knowledge of complex vehicle systems and integration of subsystems hardware into aircraft is advantageous.
  • Prior cost account management experience including EVMS.
  • Prior technical Integrated Product Team (IPT) and Subcontracts Management experience is desired.
  • Prior experience with flight hardware acceptance testing and documentation is preferred.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance.

Salary Range: $171,000 USD - $256,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
