Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for a Principal Engineer Systems Architect/ Sr. Principal Engineer Systems Architect to join our team of qualified diverse individuals. This position will be in Redondo Beach, CA. Flexible work arrangements possible with a potential hybrid schedule. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

The Engineer Systems Architect will support and facilitate strategic operational improvement and transformational initiatives across SSSD. In this role, you will help achieve corporate business goals and strategic objectives by devising creative solutions and innovative ideas, creating supporting documentation and process modeling implementation. You will support these initiatives from inception to completion by leveraging methods and tools consistent with industry standards. You will analyze business process documentation to identify opportunities for streamlining and improvements. You will facilitate technical meetings with subject matter experts to capture best practices and lessons learned and integrate those into existing processes. You will use process mapping software (Nimbus) to develop and maintain process and data models; specifically, to define "current state" and transform into the "future state”.

Essential Functions:

  • Architect and map/draw process diagrams, using Nimbus, while discussing with subject matter experts

  • Conduct business process analysis to identify areas of improvement

  • Analyze existing process documentation to parse out content according to process model needs and SSSD document hierarchy

  • Develop hierarchical and sequential process modeling concepts/techniques

  • Develop process models utilizing Nimbus

  • Understanding stakeholder needs and transforming said needs into model constructs

  • Explain to stakeholders any issues/concerns, for managing the information in a model

  • Strive for continuous improvement/efficiencies in the approach, sometimes consolidating multiple similar processes across different team into a single consolidated process

Basic Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

  • BQ for Principal Engineering Systems Architect: Bachelor’s Degree in STEM with 6 years of experience supporting an engineering or operations organization; OR Master’s Degree in STEM with 4 years of experience supporting an engineering or operations organization.

  • BQ for Sr. Principal Engineering Systems Architect: Bachelor’s Degree in STEM with 9 years of experience supporting an engineering or operations organization; OR Master’s Degree in STEM with 7 years of experience supporting an engineering or operations organization.

  • Experience working within cross functional teams

  • Experience analyzing business processes and implementing or streamlining improvements.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using process modeling tools (Tibco Nimbus, Visio, ProMapp, etc.) to identify, capture, define, and analyze business processes

  • Engineering experience on an engineering team within the NGC SSSD division.

  • Broad, enterprise-wide view and understanding of strategy, processes, and capabilities, enabling technologies, and governance

  • Understanding of hierarchical and sequential process modeling concepts/techniques

  • Strong business acumen and proven track record of providing innovative solutions

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification

  • Experience with Agile Framework

  • Active DoD Secret clearance


Salary Range: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
