We have an opening for either a Sr Principal or a Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located at our Space Park facility in Redondo Beach, CA. The selected candidate will design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determine computer user needs; analyze system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepare operating instructions; design and develop compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensure software standards are met.

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Software Engineer level or a Senior Principal Software Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications of a Principal Software Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of related experience; Master's degree with 3 years of related experience; PhD with 0 years of related experience; or an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: C++, Java, C, C#, .Net
  • Current SCI access or current DoD Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI access

Basic Qualifications of a Sr. Principal Software Engineer:

  • Bachelor's degree with 9 years of related experience; Master's degree with 7 years of related experience; PhD with 4 years of related experience; or an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: C++, Java, C, C#, .Net
  • Current SCI access or current DoD Top Secret clearance with the ability to obtain SCI access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency and interest in some of the below is highly beneficial for this role, and we will teach you what you don’t know:
  • Languages: C++, Java, C, C#, .Net
  • Technology and platforms: Linux Red Hat, git, Maven/Atlassian suite, Docker/Kubernetes, Java Web Development
  • Fundamental design principles behind a scalable application
  • Agile methodologies and techniques, continuous integration
  • Coding and design of algorithmic applications
  • Ability to collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), to generate engineering artifacts for handoff to software development
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management

Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD
Salary Range 2: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
