Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division has an opening for a Sr Principal Facilities Engineer - Energy Management and Sustainability to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be for full time support and is located in Redondo Beach, CA.

The successful candidate will be a member of the Facilities Operations organization.  The candidate must have the ability to manage facilities energy management and sustainability programs and interface with department teams and site stakeholders to manage Facilities sustainability initiatives for the Space Park campus.  The appropriate candidate will have energy management and sustainability expertise and facilities engineering and operations experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Report to the Director of Facilities Operations/Facilities Sustainability Lead   

  • Serve as focal point for Facilities sustainability initiatives

  • Monitor facilities energy usage and costs and assess health against prescribed guidelines

  • Monitors and analyzes energy consumption

  • Ensures inclusion of energy efficiency in inspection and maintenance activities

  • Tracks efficiency issues from identification through corrective action

  • Collaborates with facilities, operations, sector and corporate environmental sustainability, and cross functional teams

  • Performs site assessments

  • Participate in energy meetings reviewing market utilities pricing and making decisions on direct access utility purchases.

  • Serve as a department liaison with utility companies and monitor related utility consumption and invoices/costs

  • Serve as a core team member of site sustainability team and monitor progress on related Facilities Sustainability initiatives

  • Perform project design reviews to ensure sustainability elements are incorporated that support LEED certification or equivalent

  • Support specifying sustainable facilities materials, equipment and finishes

  • Maintain Facilities Sustainability Multi-Year Roadmap and track key milestones supporting achievement of organization sustainability goals

  • Track Facilities Sustainability metrics against baseline data

  • Identify and implement opportunities for energy efficiency and cost savings and integration of sustainable products/processes/practices

  • Serve on department Design Standards Community of Practice and ensures sustainability criteria is incorporated and maintained in all design specifications and project/construction bid templates

  • Oversee Facilities contracted services supporting energy management and sustainability initiatives

  • Review and provide inputs to site power purchase and energy service agreements

  • Provide status of energy management and sustainability metrics to management and sustainability team

  • Develop sustainability requirements for incorporation in facility design.

  • Conduct energy and sustainability briefings and technical meetings for collaboration

  • Act as an advisor to the Site Operations organization on energy management and sustainability matters.

  • Provide oversight on department sustainability training certification program ensuring current information available to team on certifications and tracking of progress

  • Perform functional responsibilities related to day-to-day energy management and sustainability 

  • Ability to receive, interpret, and relay information, both written and verbally, in a concise and effective manner across various levels of stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 9 Years experience with Bachelors of Science (STEM) degree; 7 Years with Masters degree; 4 years with PhD in related field (electrical engineering, environmental engineering, energy management, sustainability, facilities engineering, etc.)

  • 5 years of experience working at a multi-facility organization implementing energy management and/or sustainability practices including data analytics, establishing and/or tracking performance metrics

  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, or Excel

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and/or experience collaborating on teams and/or achieving organization objectives, goals, metrics, targets

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Government clearance up to the TS/SCI level


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM), LEED AP, WELL AP, Energy Start LP, and/or True Advisor Certified

  • Familiar with Energy Star Guidelines for Energy Management

  • Familiar with ISO 50001 Energy Management

  • Familiar with aerospace industry office, lab, warehouse, manufacturing/production facilities infrastructure

  • Experienced using data analytics and related Tableau reporting tools

Salary Range: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
