Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Human Resources (HR) Senior Director in Redondo Beach CA to provide leadership within our Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD). The Senior HR Director serves as a strategic business partner providing day-to-day support to the SSSD Vice President and General Manager as well as the division senior leadership team in the accomplishment of business objectives. The primary function of the role is to be a strategic partner and consultant to the division in order to ensure we have a human capital strategy in place to attract, engage, develop and retain the talent necessary to meet current and future state strategic goals.

The selected candidate will lead a team of HR Directors, HR Managers and HR Business Partners responsible for development and implementation of HR strategy and will lead human capital programs and core processes across the division including but not limited to talent assessment and development, performance management, employee relations, total rewards, succession planning and talent pipeline development, organization effectiveness and leadership development.

Basic leadership responsibilities for this position will include:

  • Making sound decisions with urgency that require evaluation of alternatives. These decisions may be made under conditions of uncertainty or where little precedent exists.
  • Interpreting, executing and recommending modifications to processes, policies and practices.
  • Influencing division senior leadership behaviors to optimize collaboration and ownership of Division and Sector objectives.
  • Strategic thought leadership, organizational and project management skills in a high paced environment.
  • Leveraging data and analytics to drive business outcomes.

Roles and responsibilities include the following:

  • Implementing Sector and Division HR strategy and initiatives aligned to sector and division x matrix.
  • Leveraging data insights and trends to identify division level business challenges; proactively partnering with / influencing division leadership to strategize business solutions; developing and leading planning, design, implementation, communication and delivery of high impact HR initiatives across the division (aligned to division x matrix and division HR objectives / priorities).
  • Strengthening capabilities, empowerment and accountability among the Division HR team to provide best-in-class HR partnership and thought leadership.
  • Leading / facilitating division performance alignment process and “total rewards” sessions.
  • Partnering with division leadership to develop talent management, succession planning and talent review strategy / cadence to bolster technical / functional leadership talent capability and strengthen the talent pipeline.
  • Partnering with division leadership to identify talent retention strategies to drive best in class employee experience (leveraging total rewards, company mission and values, best in class culture, career development and employee flexibility).
  • Leading / analyzing and presenting employee survey data/key themes to leadership; supporting leadership action plan development.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in HR or related field with 12+ years of HR experience – OR – a Master's degree in HR related field with 10+ years of HR experience.
  • Experience managing and leading teams; strong people leader and manager with a focus on inspiring / enabling an inclusive, development-focused and high-performance culture.
  • Strong collaborator and relationship-builder; keen ability to influence, coach, and consult with multiple senior executives concurrently.
  • Experience and focus on proactively identifying trends, risks, and opportunities.  Regularly advocating for improvements.
  • Excellent business acumen; leveraging HR processes, tools and data/data analytics to accelerate business results and enhancing business and employee growth and the employee experience.
  • Strong change management experience, problem solving skills and the ability to be flexible and adaptable.
  • Proven ability to lead complex cross-functional projects to completion. 
  • Executive level verbal and written communication skills.
  • Current Secret level security clearance.  US Citizenship is a prerequisite.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Current TS/SCI security clearance.  US Citizenship is a prerequisite.
  • Previous experience in Aerospace & Defense and/or government contracting.
  • Experience leading a team as a Human Resources Director responsible for multiple HR disciplines.
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and technology (Workday, Confluence, SharePoint).
  • Experience working in a matrix environment.

Salary Range: $196,600 USD - $294,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
