Strategic Space Systems Division has an opening for an Mechanical Technician 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, California.

Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the fabrication and development of mechanical engineering designs, testing and modifications of assemblies and composites related hardware. With some supervision, the individual interprets detailed drawings for fabrication and must demonstrate good knowledge of composites processes including the use of autoclave/oven systems, hand tools, lay-up and bagging of parts to a variety of molds, honeycomb core panel fabrication and assembly, and bonding using assembly fixtures. Experience with trimming, drilling, and insert and bushing installation in composites hardware is a plus. Individuals will interface with Manufacturing and Design engineering as well as Materials and Processes personnel. Individual must be able to demonstrate to Quality Assurance that work performed meets engineering drawing requirements. Works with chemicals. This position may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Must be willing to work any shift.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.

  • Three years of experience in the use of prepreg, bagging, autoclaves, ovens and release materials.

  • Proficient in use of precision measuring instruments. 

  • Experience in handling chemicals such as Isopropyl Alcohol and Acetone

  • Adept at reading drawings, process specification, and work order instructions.   

  • Able to obtain and maintain a DoD Security clearance or SCI Access.

  • Willing to work any shift.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • AA degree or other two-year technical degree

  • Familiar with Northrop Grumman Corporation processes.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office to supplement work order and other data requirements  

  • Able to perform work daily in an approved clean room environment, to include wearing clean room garments.


Salary Range: $50,000 USD - $83,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
