SSSD has an opening for a Reliability Engineering Section Manager to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Redondo Beach, CA.
This Reliability Engineering Section Manager is a “dual-hat” engineering manager, responsible for both section management (up to 20% of time) and existing program responsibilities (80% or more of time). Along with reporting into a program, the section manager is also a member of the Space Systems Sector Specialty Systems Engineering Department.
Leadership skills are required to manage and counsel team members and interns.
This section manager shall be the functional leadership contact for the Specialty Systems Engineering Department and will support and implement activities supporting reliability engineering initiatives, reporting directly to the Specialty Systems Engineering Department Manager.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Perform resource planning and staffing to meet program demands. Become a magnet for reliability engineering talent utilizing career fairs, social networking and college hiring events.
- Promote team member development; including skills training, professional seminar sponsorship, and modernize learning material. Be their advocate for career advancement by promoting knowledge sharing and mentor / protégé relationships
- Execute performance management, including employee goal setting, feedback solicitation, annual reviews, and compensation planning and issues resolution
- Lead deployment, measurement and improvement of tailored, lean, Specialty Systems Engineering processes, tools and sponsor reduction strategies
- Provide proposal support, technical project standup, program reviews (IRT, PSRR, PDR, CDR, etc.) while increasing the competitiveness of the organization to add department value.
Reliability Project Engineering Scope:
The candidate will perform program Reliability efforts including: 1) Reliability requirements evaluation/decomposition/allocations, 2) Reliability Program Plan generation, 3) system reliability modeling/predictions, 4) Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), 5) Reliability trade studies.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 5+ years of experience in engineering OR - Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 3+ years of experience in engineering Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances: - Dept. of Defense Secret level with a background investigation date within 10 years OR - Dept. of Energy L clearance with a background investigation date within 10 years - Candidate must be eligible to obtain DoD Top Secret and SCI clearances - Demonstrated management or leadership experience Preferred Qualifications: - Hands-on experience with reliability engineering in the aerospace industry. - Top level understanding of reliability engineering processes (e.g. RPPs, DFR), methods (e.g. RBDs, FMEAs, FTA/PRAs), standards/handbooks (e.g. MIL-STD-338), MIL-HDBK-217F, MIL-STD-1629 and practices/philosophies (e.g. PoF). - Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, or closely related technical discipline from an accredited institution - Active DoD Top Secret or SCI clearance - Prior assignment manager and/or performance management experience - Proven program Reliability Engineering experience is preferred
