Space Systems- Ground Product Engineering & Advanced Programs Department in Redondo Beach, CA is seeking a Manager 2 to manage a section and lead small teams as Subprogram Manager. Ability to lead multidiscipline teams of about 10 employees to an operations and maintenance program. Candidate will lead two small teams as Subprogram Manager (SPM) of Global Logistics engineers and Product Designers within Hardware Engineering and Logistics on the COAST II program. The Global Logistics team performs shipping and receiving, procurement, property management, asset database management, and technical writing. The Product Design team is responsible for drawing updates to modifications to the baseline and coordinates with the development program on changes. The SPM works closely with the hardware engineering organization in support of depot repairs to custom NG hardware and COTS products in facilitating procurements, goods movement, and material requisitions from Stores. SPM is expected to backfill for their manager, brief the customer, communicate with offsite facility management, and perform impact assessments to proposed baseline changes. Provide logistical status to monthly review boards on hardware DRs as well as chair the hardware and logistics Risk Management Board. In addition to the SPM position responsibilities described above, approximately 20% of time is spent on functional management responsibilities providing leadership and direction to section members, ensuring members have sufficient statement of work, managing member performance (including engagement strategies for higher performers and corrective actions for lower performers), coordinating with programs to ensure appropriate staffing/de-staffing actions are developed and executed relative to their section, and ensuring their members are familiar with and use required engineering processes and tools. The candidate will be the first point of contact for performance issues on programs involving section members and will make decisions regarding required escalation and resources required for resolution; and be responsible for process decisions, improvements, and documentation. Responsibilities also include day-to-day operation of the functional organization including decisions regarding awards, performance evaluations, salary review process, employee development and mentoring, ensuring proper charging practices are followed, staffing inputs to the Department Manager, and interpreting higher level guidance for implementation within the organization.   • BS in STEM degree from an accredited institution and of 5 years of experience OR  Bachelors degree from an accredited institution and 10 years of experience
  • Experience leading individual contributors and teams of performers
  • Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:
Dept of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years OR SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years OR Dept of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years Preferred Qualifications:
  • Management/Technical Lead experience solving technical, design, staffing, and resource issues
