Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space Systems Division, is seeking a highly qualified, mission oriented Staff Engineer Mechanical located in Redondo Beach, CA with responsibilities including the following:
With minimal direction, and while mentoring/leading others, apply engineering principles to drive the timely planning and execution of mechanical integration and test, including but not limited to the following types of assignments:
  • Manage test products (plans, flows, schedules) and detailed work instructions to implement and comply with requirements
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to other test engineers
  • Read and understand engineering drawings, specifications, plans, and requirements documents
  • Interact across engineering disciplines to clarify requirements and understand and address limitations, constraints, potential conflicts, and safety considerations
  • Interact across organizations to coordinate readiness for task execution including facilities, personnel, non-flight hardware/ equipment, flight hardware, configuration
  • Drive sharing and incorporation of lessons learned, including any changes to governing documents
  • Support problem resolution, paperwork closeout, and requirements verification
  • Assess impacts of possible requirement and/ or schedule changes
  • Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy.
  • Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline plus 14 years of engineering experience OR Master's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline plus 12 years of engineering experience.  
  • Experience in aerospace, defense or high-reliability product development industries.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Outlook)
  • Candidate must have and be able to maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance at the Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years OR must have and be able to maintain an active U.S. Government SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within the last 5 years.  
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Spacecraft subsystems including: electrical boxes, harnesses, actuators, antennas, mechanical structures, deployable systems, propulsion systems, thermal control systems/ thermal insulation.
  • Experience with managing & tracking technical risks, mitigation/burn down plans and risk reporting to program leadership
  • Leadership and/or mentorship experience
  • Develops recommended solutions to technical problems in mechanical engineering disciplines
  • Experience with MS Project
