This position will be at NGAS South Bay Systems & Specialty Engineering Center of Excellence (CoE) located in Redondo Beach, CA.  This position can also be located at one of our other CoE's located in San Diego, CA or Melbourne, FL.   Position Overview:   The Staff Supportable LO Systems Engineer will work within the Aeronautics Systems Survivability Department focused on a new Low Observable (LO) design to help us shape the future of the sector, the company, and our valued customers. In this role, you will help define the LO design and integration to meet the survivability and supportability goals in a maritime environment.    The Staff Supportable LO Systems Engineer will be a part of an Integrated Product Team (IPT), supporting multi-discipline advanced development programs and technology Research and Development (R&D). As well, this position will have project leadership responsibilities and include a prominent role in proposal development.   Essential Functions:    
  • Apply previous LO design experience in survivable material systems and repair concepts to a new LO design that enhances the Reliability, Maintainability, and Supportability (RM&S) without degradation of survivability attributes.  
  • Apply previous LO design and test experience to develop design and repair concepts, design representative test article features to enable post-processed data extraction to quantify the Radar Cross-Section (RCS) of pristine, damaged, and repaired features.
  • Apply previous RCS test experience to plan and coordinate extensive effects of defects and effects of repairs test program at an indoor / outdoor RCS test range.
  • Develop and lead a diverse group of Supportable LO Engineers from a variety of backgrounds. Translate overall system or company goals into discrete tasks in support program milestones, often guiding or steering the team toward the completion of the tasks. 
  • Communicate across the engineering disciplines and technology areas to create a balanced integrated solution. Effectively communicate technical capabilities and analytical / measured results with internal stakeholders, senior leadership, and government customer(s).

Basic Qualifications:    
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 14 years of aircraft engineering experience OR a Master's Degree and 12 years of experience OR a PhD Degree and 9 years of experience.
  • Experience proposing and running successful development efforts to develop survivable components and technology that includes budget and schedule management, tasking, and review of technical products.
  • Experience in Radar Cross-Section (RCS) design, fabrication, and test of survivability attributes at an indoor/outdoor RCS test range.
  • Experience overseeing Low Observable (LO) repair, maintenance techniques, and logistic operations, which includes performing LO inspections and verifications using Tier-0 to Tier-2 methods.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office with strong technical writing skills, technical proposal development, and the ability to communicate and present technical material to various stakeholders.
  • A current active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher is required to start, with the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret security clearance and Special Program Access (PAR/SPA).

Preferred Qualifications:  
  • Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • Fourteen plus years of experience in conceptual design of advanced survivable air vehicles.
  • Experience with RCS analysis of survivability features / components using computational electromagnetic  in-house or commercial Method of Moments codes such as SENTRi or HFSS.
  • Experience with RCS test data post-processing tools, such as Knowbell or Pioneer.
  • Knowledge of LO material systems and logistics support required for field use in a maritime environment.
  • Carrier based aircraft operations or maintainer experience.
  • Experience with Tier-3 to Tier-5 LO inspection techniques and tools.
  • Experience with Supportability Readiness Assessments (SRAs) of low to mid TRL systems/technologies applicable to survivable systems.
  • Familiarity with current LO maintenance repair techniques, material systems and logistic support/operations for fielded vehicles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
  • Technical leadership and project management experience, translating stakeholder or customer requirements into executable project plans and managing to successful completion.
  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret (SSBI/SCI) security clearance with previous or current Special Program Access (PAR/SPA).
