Northrop Grumman is seeking a Manager of Energetic Testing to join the Defense Systems Intern Program. This position will be located in Rocket Center, WV.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Energetic Technologies and Laboratories within the Weapon Systems Division.

Job Description:

Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Scientific Manager located at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory near Cumberland, MD. This position will report directly to the Energetic Technologies and Laboratories Senior Manager, and will provide leadership to a team that conducts analysis and interpretation of data for propellants, explosives and other materials utilized or manufactured at the facility.

Supervisory or management responsibilities for projects engaged in initiating, designing, developing, executing, and implementing scientific research. Develops theories for understanding, characterizing and organizing natural phenomena into a systematic and meaningful pattern for research into potential new products or inventions. May participate in intellectual property evaluations and development of patent applications. May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts.

Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for the leadership and management of the Energetics Testing group
Manage resources to ensure the appropriate level of support and prioritization of activities
Schedules work, leads and trains direct reports, and controls processes on a scheduled basis while maintaining positive working relationships
Communicates job expectations; planning, monitoring, coaching and appraising results
Interaction with direct reports, chemists, engineers and other areas of the plant concerning operations or scheduling of projects
Manage personnel and financial resources effectively
Ensure that equipment and systems are maintained in accordance with procedures and standards
Perform duties within industry specific regulations regarding safety, product and material requirements and plant operations


   

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability and willingness to work outside of standard work hours when needed to resolve issues
• Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
• High ethical standards of work and personal conduct
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and with internal and external customers
• Ability to work well in a team environment and effective interpersonal communication and problem solving skills are desired
• Proficiency in MS office tools and web-based organizational filing
• Able to obtain a Secret Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a prerequisite

Other:

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field preferred
• Supervisory experience preferred
• Chemistry or Chemical Engineering Degree preferred
• Previous Laboratory experience in a Manufacturing Environment preferred
• Strong organizational skills
• Possess good interpersonal skills
• Clear written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work with a cross functional team
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment
