Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is a leading global provider, manufacturer and integrator of advanced, secure and agile software-defined systems and solutions. Our products range from advanced sensing technologies to state-of-the-art targeting and tracking systems that are deployed in Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR) and Radio Frequency Electronic Warfare (RFEW) systems. These systems are designed, developed, built, integrated, and tested by the capable folks at our company to protect the lives of U.S. and Allied warfighters in present and future conflicts.


Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) seeks to fill a Manager-Systems Engineering 1 position at our Rolling Meadows, IL location. Selected candidates will provide overall direction to the RF Systems Integration &Test team. 


The management position is defined as:


Radio Frequency (RF) Integration and Test (I&T) leadership

  • System I&T is responsible for developing and maintaining the system-level testing process during all phases of product development and manufacturing including system integration and qualification


The responsibilities associated with managing a team include:


• Leadership for support and adherence to standard SEIT processes
• Oversight of cost, schedule, and technical quality for SEIT execution on supported programs
• Provide technical contributions on assigned programs, including subject matter expert reviews for major milestone events (SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, etc.). SEIT support as an individual contributor, and leadership of root cause and corrective action analysis as required.
• Support to hiring, staffing and workload forecasting including identification and training of skills required to execute on programs
• Provide employee mentoring, career development, and training opportunities
• Management and execution of employee performance review processes
• Creating an inclusive and engaging environment that promotes employee retention
• Support MBSE, Product Line Architecture (PLA), and Agile implementation that provide a competitive advantage for our customers.

The successful candidates will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance. He/she will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. These candidates will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.


Minimal travel is expected.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelors of Science degree or higher in an engineering / technical discipline
• Minimum of 4 years’ related experience preferably in an aerospace or defense oriented engineering environment
• Proven demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication skills along with proven success working in an integrated product team environment.
• Knowledge of MATLAB, Python, or other scripting languages

• High proficiency in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring
• U.S. Citizen
• Must have the ability to obtain Interim Secret Clearance prior to start date. Once started, must have the ability to obtain full secret clearance and SAP Clearance.



Preferred Qualifications: 

• A proven history of technology development including technology/product conception and development activities through technology readiness levels (TRL 1-7)
• Experience with RF Systems and concepts
• Experience in all aspects of the engineering process / lifecycle, from requirements analysis through verification testing
• Background and understanding in various tools and techniques associated with cost/schedule management
• Proficiency in MS Project, MS Office, Simulink, Model Driven Engineering (MDE), DOORS, ClearCase/ClearQuest, and Agile techniques
• Master's degree in a relevant technical or management specialty


Salary Range: $114,200 USD - $171,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
