Job Description

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems has an opening for a Level 2/3 Materials Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located in Rolling Meadows, IL and will report to the site Material Evaluation Laboratory Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

• Shelf-Life Evaluation Program
  • Set Shelf-Life requirements in SAP for New Items
  • Review and approve exceptions to Shelf-Life requirements for Incoming Receiving
  • Extend Shelf Life for items that are approaching Shelf-Life expiration date by reviewing data sheets and performing various tests to ensure that Shelf Life can be extended
• Support production issues related to adhesives, potting/encapsulation materials, and the like
• Various testing methods may include:
  • Mechanical testing
  • Thermal analysis
  • Chemical analysis
  • Material evaluation
  • Failure analysis
  • Perform cross-section analysis
  • X-ray inspection
• Support Operations, Procurement, Engineering, and Supply Chain Processes
• Learn and work with a broad range of lab equipment
• Review Clean Room particle count data for approval.

Basic Qualifications:

Material Evaluation Lab Process Engineer

Relevant experience in laboratory analysis work

Qualifications:

• Bachelors Degree in Material Science and/or Engineering, Metallurgy, or Chemical Engineering and minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience. 
• Manage the Shelf-Life Evaluation Program for various materials that have passed their expiration date to determine if it can be extended for a limited period or time through analysis and research of past extensions.
• Familiar with or willing to learn basic failure analysis techniques such as materials testing (tensile and viscosity), thermal analysis, and chemical analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Highly proficient in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action investigations.
• Demonstrate highly effective interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills with ability to interact at all professional levels.
• US Citizen and ability to obtain DoD Security Clearance (not mandatory).
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Access, Excel, Word, OneNote)

Principal Material Evaluation Lab Process Engineer

Preferred Qualifications:

• Six Sigma Green Belt Certified.
• Experience in defense, aerospace, or automotive industries.
• Experience with SAP or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

MANUMS

Salary Range: $71,500 USD - $107,300 USD

Salary Range 2: $88,000 USD - $132,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
