Northrop Grumman is seeking Associate Embedded Software Engineers and Embedded Software Engineers. This position will be located at our Space Systems Sector in Rolling Meadows, IL.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Payload and Ground Systems division.

Roles and Responsibilities:

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will join our diverse team and be responsible for software research, architecture, design, implementation, and integration on our systems. You will be working on mission critical software to meet the needs of our customers. Your expertise in embedded mission critical software is desired for this position.

Basic Qualifications: 

This requisition may be filled at either a level 1 or a level 2.  Basic qualifications for a Software Engineer 1 are a Bachelor’s Degree. Basic qualifications for a Software Engineer 2 are a Master’s Degree.

A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:

  • Be completing or has completed their degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD) from an accredited institution
  • Be majoring in or having majored in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) degree
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher (unofficial academic transcripts must be provided at time of application by uploading the documents to your application or profile)
  • Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
  • Experience with C/C++ or similar language using object oriented development
  • Familiarity with Software Development Lifecycle (Waterfall, Scrum, Kanban, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Automated Testing and Continuous Integration Frameworks
  • Familiarity with Python
  • Familiarity with various version control systems (Github, Bitbucket, ClearCase) and Agile software planning tools (Rally, Jira, etc.)


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.70/4.0 or higher
  • Software Architecture skills (Design Patters, Object Oriented Design)
  • Real-time/multi-threaded embedded application Programming Experience
  • Software Defined Radio Architecture experience
  • Strong Discrete Signal Processing background
  • RTOS experience (VxWorks, Linux)
  • Proven communication and team leadership skills
  • Active TS/SCI clearance

Salary Range:

Associate Embedded Software Engineer: $65,000 - $97,600

Embedded Software Engineer: $78,600 - $118,000

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
