Northrop Grumman Space Systems sector, located in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, is seeking a motivated candidate to join the Payloads and Ground Systems Division. The selected candidate will become an FPGA Design Engineer at the Engineer or Principal Engineer Level. The qualified applicant will work on digital designs for cutting edge space applications.

Primary responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

  • VHDL design of FPGA logic

  • FPGA verification via simulation and emulation (lab testing), synthesis, timing analysis, and place and route for FPGA

  • Development of FPGA architecture based on requirements

  • FPGA design for Space environment or Space Applications

  • Perform lab integration

Basic Qualifications:

  • For Engineer Level: STEM Bachelors’ degree from an accredited institution with a minimum 2 years of FPGA/ASIC design experience OR Master's degree with a minimum 0 years of FPGA design experience

  • For Principal Engineer Level: STEM Bachelors’ degree from an accredited institution with a minimum 5 years of FPGA/ASIC design experience OR Master's degree with a minimum 3 years of FPGA/ASIC design experience

  • Experience with RTL coding for FPGAs or ASICs

  • Proficient in FPGA design flow including items such as RTL/gate level simulation, synthesis, place and route, static timing analysis, and power analysis

  • Experience with FPGA simulation tools to verify performance of complex RTL blocks

  • Familiarity with source control tools (Git, ClearCase, etc)

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain an active Government clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in digital communications or digital signal processing

  • Hands-on lab experience with design and integration of digital hardware is highly desired.

  • Experience working with Xilinx Ultrascale+ or UltraScale FPGA (Virtex, Kinex, etc)

  • Expertise in Xilinx Vivado

  • Experience developing in MATLAB/Simulink

  • Active DoD Clearance preferred.


Salary Range: $106,500 USD - $159,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
