Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal/Senior Principal Structural Engineer to join the Command and Launch Team. This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program.

What You’ll Get To Do:

The qualified candidate will perform structural analysis on and define structural requirements for the GBSD Launch Equipment (LE) missile support systems.  The role will include the following tasks and responsibilities:

  • Development and capture of engineering specifications for metallic and non-metallic structures for all phases of the product like cycle, from preliminary design to sustainment
  • Conduct structural analysis including loads evaluation and static/dynamic conditions, stress, stability, fatigue and thermal loading
  • Analysis performed using hand calculation or finite element software packages such as Abaqus and ANSYS
  • Receive instruction from senior engineers and handle multiple tasks in parallel

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. Relocation assistance may be available

Basic Qualifications: 

• Principal: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 5 years of experience; 3 years with Master’s Degree; 0 years with PhD

• Senior Principal: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 9 years of experience; 4 years with Master’s Degree; 4 years with PhD

• Experience running static and dynamic analysis.

• Proficient in Post-processing using MATLAB and EXCEL

• Proficient writer and able to verbally communicate technical content

• US Citizenship with the ability to obtain an active DoD Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:  

• Proficiency with ABAQUS, LS-DYNA, and ANSYS tools

• Exposure to structural test applications

• Active DoD Secret clearance

Exposure to missile programs & with propulsion


Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
