Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer / Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the Command and Launch Team. This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. Final grade level offered will be based on level of experience.

What You’ll Get To Do:

The selected candidate for this role will be responsible for ground-based subsystem design, 3D model development, 3D model based drawings development, Installation drawings, data packages creation, support test plan development, analysis, interface with suppliers and present at technical design reviews. You will be doing all this as part of the Launch Equipment Distribution System Team.

Specific roles and responsibilities will include:

• Developing innovative solutions and elaborating on design concepts

• Perform detailed hardware design including part selection and NX CAD modeling

• Perform static and dynamic structural analysis (including loads evaluation and static/dynamic conditions, stress, stability, fatigue and thermal loading)

• Analysis performed using hand calculation or finite element software packages such as Abaqus and ANSYS

• Determining the technical principles involved, identifying the design path forward and engineering characteristics to ensure consistency with the specifications and requirements

• Releasing results as “technical documents” after review by the senior members of the team.

• Evaluating completed designs with supervisor and other technical groups and making modifications necessary to achieve the most ideal design.

• Developing and coordinating test plans for Integration and Test activities

• Experience working in a cross functional environment (electrical engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, test engineering, production engineering, etc.) to translate customer requirements

• Generate documentation and brief effectively and clearly to multiple program boards and leadership

• Support the fabrication team for hardware builds

• Provide supplier technical oversight.

• Interface with AF Customer

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Job Qualifications:

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

•Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 2 years of experience; 0 years with Master’s Degree

•Principal Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 5 years of experience; 3 years with Master’s Degree; 0 years with PhD

•Experience with at least one of the following Mechanical Analysis tools such as NX FEMAP/NASTRAN, ABAQUS, HYPERMESH

•Experience in CAD Modeling and nonlinear shock/seismic analysis

•Proficient writer and able to verbally communicate technical content

•US Citizen with ability to obtain a Secret Clearance

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

•Exposure to missile programs and/or ICBM MMIII Legacy Systems

•Experience with ABAQUS, FEMAP, and ANSYS tools

•Experience with programming languages such as MATLAB

 •Experience with Siemens NX and Team Center (CPLM)

•Experience with 3D model based drawings

•GD&T training/familiarization

•A current DoD Secret clearance granted or re-investigated within last 6 years


Salary Range: $64,600 USD - $97,000 USD
Salary Range 2: $79,700 USD - $119,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
