Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Engineer. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

What you’ll get to do: 

The selected Engineer will be responsible for electronic hardware development including architecture design review, detailed circuit design, performing customer briefings/reviews, hardware test evaluations, and system integration. Primary deliverables are specialized flight electronics and ground system systems electronics designs built to fulfil the unique and demanding system requirements demanded in high radiation environments.

The ideal candidate has a broad range of experience with design, integration, and test of at least one or more of the following:

  • Digital, Analog, or RF circuits
  • Proficiency in SPICE-based circuit simulation tools
  • Analog Circuit Card Assembly design and analysis
  • Electronic units/drawers
  • Guidance and Navigation Systems
  • CMOS analog/mixed-signal circuit design
  • Test fixtures
  • Failure Analysis
  • Electronic test systems
  • Test Set Rack development
  • Small to large electronic systems.
  • Space Vehicle Payload or Bus test suites, and/or Operational Ground systems
  • Learn to perform Nuclear Hardness and Survivability (NH&S) analysis for electronics units, subsystems, payloads, and ballistic missile system
  • Learn to analyze radiation test plans and parts radiation test results for higher-level implementation in circuit degradation analysis.
  • This includes Total Ionizing Dose effects, Neutron Displacement Damage effects, Prompt Gamma Dose Rate effects, and Single Event Effects statistical analysis and modeling.
  • Some responsibilities include performing:
  • Electronic unit simulation, design recommendations, development, test, and integration.
  • Electronic Test System (Test Set) design, development, test, and support.
  • Vehicle payload and bus electronics modeling, test set development, and sub-system developmental testing
  • Ground systems electronics modeling and analysis
  • Developing and presenting design reviews for internal and external customers
  • Developing final performance data packages.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

You’ll bring these qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics)
  • A minimum 9 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; 7 years with a Master’s; or 4 years with PhD
  • U.S. Citizenship with an active DoD Secret Clearance
  • Ability to obtain Special Access Program Clearance
  • Experience with requirements development and analysis.
  • Experience with system/subsystem integration, test, and verification.
  • Must have proven experience in communicating with all levels of peers, management and customers in a methodical, detailed and process oriented fashion.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in solving technical problems independently with minimal supervision.
  • Design and test experience in electronics technology
  • Proficiency in SPICE-based circuit simulation tools

These qualifications would be nice to have:

  • Active DOD, SCI, or SSBI clearance
  • Design and test experience in more than one: Digital/Analog/RF technology
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution

Salary Range: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
