Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the Ground Systems Team. This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Ground Subsystems Support Contract (GSSC) program.

What You’ll Get To Do:

The selected candidate will be part of a team working on the sustainment of the Minuteman III system. Roles and responsibilities include:

•Provide technical leadership for new component/tool design, requirements definition, manufacturing, refurbishment processes

•Interact and work with our internal and external customer to ensure projects expectations are met and schedules are kept

•Understand USAF processes, procedures, and requirements; develop mechanical integration approaches based on required instructions

•Provide mechanical support to Nuclear Hardness Engineering by completing Ground shock analysis

•Provide mentorship to Junior engineers and interns

•Perform functional analysis, system level analysis, detailed trade studies, and data analytics

•Manage development to meet program milestones, including managing risk and opportunities

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. Relocation assistance may be available.

Basic Qualifications: 

•A Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 9 years of experience; 7 years with Master’s Degree; 4 years with PhD

•Direct experience completing Ground Shock analysis and writing technical reports and writing Nuclear Environment Test plans and reports

•Experience using the following tools: NX or other CAD software, ANSYS, MATLAB, Microsoft Office, or equivalents

•Experience with application of innovative solutions to complex problems that arise within sustaining existing mechanical and electromechanical equipment

•Direct experience preforming Nuclear Environment testing with the ability to troubleshoot anomalies during test events

•US citizen with ability to obtain DoD clearance

Preferred Qualifications:  

•Experience with government System Integrity Verification (SIV) process and Air Force standards

•Demonstrated competence managing software tools such as ANSYS, NX, MATLAB driving test data compilation and processing

•Experience developing technical white papers and test reports

•Familiarity with ANSYS simulation tools for analysis

•Demonstrated record of collaboration among multiple subsystem teams

•Working knowledge of applicable MIL STDs, AFIs, AFMANs for Nuclear Hardness & Survivability

•Active DoD Secret security clearance or higher with adjudication in the last 6 years


Salary Range: $98,700 USD - $148,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
