Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking an Instructional Systems Designer/Senior Designer in support of weapon system-based training. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel Program on the Support and Training Team. Learn more about the Sentinel program here. Qualified individuals will provide technical writing support to design and development of training courseware and training devices.

Job Responsibilities:

Provide Instructional Systems design support to the Training Services Lead for program design, development, and delivery of training courseware, curriculum, and related services. 

Roles and responsibilities:

•       Weapon system-based instructional materials design and development of:
•    Instructional materials and products for technology-based courses - including online, mobile, immersive and performance support
•    Demonstrate and use effective needs analysis, project management, course development, and evaluation skills
•    Instruction materials – development of self-paced guides, case studies, job aids, evaluations; scenario-based storyboards; mobile learning concepts (smart phones, tablets)
•    Training materials – development of instructor guides, student manuals, workbooks, related materials; curricula to support program implementation across target audiences
•    Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to identify specific training needs and develop solutions for satisfying unique skills based training requirements.
•    Create and analyze assessments to evaluate learning effectiveness and instructional improvement opportunities – e.g. pre-tests, post-tests, and quizzes
•     Stand-up instruction of ICBM/BGSD training materials

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Designer: Bachelors Degree with 6 years experience or 4 years experience with Master's degree; or an additional 4 years relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • Senior Designer: Bachelors Degree with 10 years experience or 8 years experience with Master's degree; or an additional 4 years relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • Knowledge of the creative application of the ADDIE model
  • Knowledge of Learning Theory, Design Thinking, Prototyping Learning/Training Solutions 
  • Developing instructor guides, student manuals, workbooks, and related materials.
  • Developing training that is delivered through digital media, including Web, Video, Mobile Devices
  • Understanding Learning Management System (LMS) functionality (course publishing, enrollments)
  • Applying critical skills thinking when solving complex problems
  • USAF instructor with documented certification/completion of ASIC instructor course
  • Ability to obtain Secret and/or Top Secret Clearance 

Preferred Qualifications:  

•      Experience in technical writing, background in adult learning theory, experience in writing curriculum that matches objectives 
•    Experience in conducting training events
•    Training needs analysis (and other forms of analysis) that informs objectives and training design
•    Design and development of curriculum for advanced technologies
•    Interactive exercises/scenarios
•    Conducted Technical Training Stand-up instruction with military application
•    Familiarity or awareness of Agile/agile development and user/learner experience, including in multiple ID frameworks like ADDIE, Merrill’s Principles of Instruction, Gagne, etc.
•    Program experience from “beginning to end” – from analysis of tasks to evaluation of a program. 
•    Experience in a similar or related program to GBSD and/or multimedia experience, supporting the successful execution of Department of Defense programs. 
•    Experience and familiarity with Air Force Ratings, Air Force Enlisted Codes and Apprentice level training processes.
•    Active Secret Clearance
•    ICBM/MMIII experience


Salary Range: $79,700 USD - $119,500 USD
Salary Range 2: $98,700 USD - $148,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
